30th International Chapter to be opened in USA today!

Addressing the media on his first official visit here in Chennai, CA Nilesh S. Vikamsey, President, Institute of Charted Accountants of India (ICAI), spoke on the key focus areas of the institute.

He said, “ICAI has always been a helpful hand to the Govt. of India in improving the economic performance of the Country. We are glad that accounting got noticed in Union Budget for the first time.”

On talking about GST, he said, “ICAI has provided the Government with lot of suggestions on GST and out of which 47 have been accepted. We are planning to work hand in hand with both the Central and State Government and provide them with helpful suggestions on implementing the GST laws. We have plans to introduce Certificate Course on GST within one month of enactment of the law and also a publication on GST Act. Earlier we have been organizing Certificate Course on Service Tax.”

He further said, “Opening of the 30th Chapter at San Francisco has been approved by Council and shall be inaugurated on March 4. Further, steps are also laid down to set up the Chapter at Netherlands. We are in talks with CPA Canada for an MoU, so as to benefit the Indian Chartered Accountancy community.

As a drive to foster goodwill and relationship between various countries, ICAI is hosting the next meeting of Emerging Economies Group in May 2017 in India. Coinciding with the meeting, it is also proposed to hold stakeholders meet to discuss the emerging issues of accounting.”

He added, “The recent initiatives for students include revision of Scheme of Education and Training, preparation of Study Material for all levels. We are working to provide Study Material for the revised new scheme Foundation Course in eBook format to enable Students to study on mobile devices like tablets and smartphones. Regional Offices and Branches are being requested to conduct Campus Placements that will result in brand building, connect the students and firms/industry.”

Mr. Madhukar Hiregange, Chairman, Indirect Tax Committee, was also present during the meeting.
