World Kindness Day 2022: In Kindness We Believe

Celebrated on 13th November every year, World Kindness Day is the culmination of e week-long observance of Kindness. Each year, a specific theme drives through the Kindness Week. The theme for 2022 is: “Kindness makes you live longer”.

Celebrated by 28 countries over the world, Kindness Week is dedicated to small and big acts of kindness that make the world a better place to live. It may seem surprising that one has to be reminded to be kind, or that kindness needs celebration, but the reality is that we get so caught up in our lives that we forget to take a moment and be kind.

This week-long effort will be a chain reaction of good and kind acts. It is said that kindness makes you live longer, and scientists and anthropologists in the US are working to prove this notion. Some psychologists are researching how kindness can improve mood and reduce depression symptoms.

Dr. Kelli Harding of Columbia University has been examining the phenomenon in her recent book, The Rabbit Effect. Talking to BBC, she explained the title of her book: “I heard about this study of rabbits, back in the 1970s. One set had better outcomes and they wanted to find out what was going on. It turned out the rabbits doing better were under the care of one really kind researcher. As a doctor, I was absolutely shocked. It felt like there was an urgent message.”

She says that Kindness helps the immune system and blood pressure. It extends an individual’s healthy life.

Even as a principle, a random act of Kindness can turn a lot around. It may be small and random for you, but it may be life-changing for someone else. They may remember you and your kindness for the rest of their life, so you’re also alive in their memory.

There is an abundance of Kindness, one can never really run out of it. You can do your part by:

Donating food, books, clothes, warmers, beds, medicines, etc. You don’t have to do a lot, a little goes a long way.
Performing Random Acts of Kindness by making someone smile, sending your friends flowers, buying a stranger food, or holding the door for someone. It WILL make their day better.
Monetary Help donates money to a Kindness NGO or any cause that you believe in.
Activism by spreading awareness or reaching out to people who are in need of help.

This World Kindness Day, help people navigate things in their world. It’s important to remember that everyone is worthy of kindness: the people you agree with and the ones you disagree with. Also, yourself.
