It was a sad time for the film fraternity as film personalities and people from various walks of lives expressed their grief at the demise of veteran filmmaker and former Union Minister Dasari Narayana Rao. The 75-year-old director-producer-actor breathed his last in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
He had been ailing for some time. The Telugu film industry will remain shut today as a mark of respect to Dasari Narayana Rao. South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce president C Kalyan announced that there would be no shootings.
AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu while condoling the death of Dasari, described him as a pillar of the Telugu film industry who brought recognition to Telugu cinema at the national level.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said it was Dasari who played an instrumental role in shifting the Telugu film industry from Chennai to Hyderabad. Condoling his death, he said Dasari left an indelible mark in the film industry and in politics.
Film personalities including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan among others expressed their condolences.
In his condolence, Rajinikanth, said, ‘Shri Dasari Narayana Rao ji, my dearest & closest well-wisher & friend. One of the greatest directors of India. His demise is a loss to the whole Indian Film Industry. My heartfelt condolences to his family. May his soul RIP’.
On his part, Kamal Haasan, tweeted, ‘My sympathy and condolences to the family of Daasari NaryaNa rao. His loss is truly a big loss for Telugu cinema. Late KB sir admired him. I remember the days spent with Narayan rao gaaru and Sanjeev Kumar ji. Yaadgaar. He was a great fan of KB. I belong to a great family’.
Popular Telugu actor Chiranjeevi, said, ‘Learnt the news about Dasari Garu when am here in China. Extremely shook by the unbelievable loss. My last but impactful memory with him was when I met him on his birthday, a few days ago, to present the Allu Ramalingaiah Award. His demise is a personal loss to each one of us and I will forever carry his warmth. affection and fondness for me in my heart. His services to the Telugu Film Industry are unforgettable. My deepest condolence to the family and May his soul rest in peace’.
Veteran filmmaker Singeetham Srinivas Rao, said, ‘He was a towering personality. His demise is a great loss to the film industry’.
