Actress Lara Dutta bagged the Dadasaheb Phalke Best Actress in Supporting Role for her stellar performance in Bell-Bottom, hailed the film special and her portrayal of Indira Gandhi was a dream role.
Lara Dutta was interacting with NewsHelpline at the Red-Carpet gala of Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards 2022 in Mumbai.
Talking about her role in the film, Lara said, “The character of Bell-Bottom had been really special for me, to portray Indira Gandhi on-screen was really special. I am very happy and excited”
“After a long time in my career, I got to play a character, who isn’t just an iconic figure but a dream role for every actress. And the film was released during the lockdown and for lots of various reasons this film was talked about, the film then released in theatres, it was the first movie which was shot during the lockdown, so I think, Bell Bottom had a lot of firsts, so hopefully we will win more awards” added Lata.
Lara Dutta also expressed her excitement about attending an award function post-pandemic induced lockdown. She added, “After a long time, I am attending an award function. After a long gap, physical award function is happening, it feels good that I am here physically and attending the prestigious Dadashaeb Phalke International Film Awards”
Helmed by Ranjit M Tewari, written by Aseem Arrora and Parveez Sheikh, the film Bell-Bottom also starred Akshay Kumar, Vaani Kapoor, and Huma Qureshi. The film was inspired from real life hijacking events in India by Khalistani separatists during the 1980s, such as the Indian Airlines Flight 423, 405 and 421 hijackings.
