Madras Art Weekend (MAW), an initiative of The International Foundation For The Arts founded by Upasana Asrani is delighted to present a festival of art in Chennai on November 11, 12th and 13th, 2022 IAF, in its true essence, is a platform to promote the arts.
The foundation acts as a catalyst to facilitate dialogue and collaborations within the arts communities and bridge the gap between local governing bodies, institutions, corporates, and artists. The foundation has been instrumental in bringing about fresh energy into the art scene in the city with its monthly art tours and talks, amongst other engagements within the art ecosystem.
Madras Art Weekend is a collaborative event to bring together the entire art fraternity on a single platform, With the aim of exploring the vast potential of emerging and established artists that are represented by the various galleries organisations and individuals. The aim is to reinvent the narrative and to bring forth fresh energy into the art scene in the city and the south. The focus of MAW is to create a synergy, dialogue, interaction and a platform that is relevant, experiential and sensorial.
From art talks by prominent artists talking about their practices and galleries engaging with art enthusiasts, the endeavour is to bring together an entire fraternity of art and design enthusiasts in order to broaden the reach and relevance of contemporary art.

Event Details: Panel Discussion on ‘The intersection of Art and the World of Design’. The panel includes distinguished guests Komal Sharma- Editor of Architectural Digest India, Celebrity interior designer- Vinita Chaitanya, Multidisciplinary artist Ayushman Mitra – Brand Bobo Calcutta, Jequline Heethy – Cultural Attachée, Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany and Kamna Mallik design curator and content strategist.
Moderated by well-known Chennai personality Vidya Singh, this is intended to be a stimulating exchange of thoughts and ideas about the way art and design are perceived as singularities and as parallels, both definitions of the deeply relevant world we live in.

MAW presents the acclaimed creations of BOBO Calcutta curated by Sabitha and Upasana Asrani
showcasing the artistic genius of Ayushman Mitra and Jeet Shahi on the 12th of November.
Ayushman will personally be present to interact with the public.

Event: MAW presents a critical discussion on gallery philosophies titled ‘A look at how galleries program and curate’.
The panel includes distinguished gallerists such as Sanjay Kumar of Sakshi Art Gallery, Bhavna Kakar, founder of Take Magazine and Latitude 28 and Ayaan Jungalwala of Chemould Prescott Bombay and the discussion will be moderated by Shreya Nagarajan Singh, Arts Development Consultant.

Event: Celebrating Gender Affinities- ‘ Let No One Mistake Us For The Fruit Of Violence ‘ curated by Vidisha -Fadescha (Party Office) and presented by Goethe Institute. including artists Tsohil Bhatia, Anurag Minus Verma, Ashfika Rahman, Sandeep Kuriakose, Renuka Rajiv and Javed Sultan.

Venue: Taj Club House, Club House Road
Event: Moderated by Mrudul Pathak, Editor-Elle Decor, the panel discussion examines the relationship and collaborative potential of private collectors and public community art and the crucial role of each to achieve a nation’s vision. Panellists include Vir Kotak – lens media-based artist and leading collector, Rouble Nagi – art activist and founder of Misaal, Mumbai, Sanjay Tulsyan, patron of the Madras Art Movement and collector, Sanjay Tulsiyan and leading collectors Jaiveer Johal and Mithun Sancheti.
This carefully curated event is intended to bring together art lovers and art creators and involves the support of galleries and media that are an integral part of the fraternity. The aim is to simplify the process of art appreciation by encouraging emerging artists who showcase their works in the warm companionship of established seniors and to make access easy for the public at large to be a part of the city’s culture. Merging elements such as dialogue, artistic energies and synergies, and interactions between stakeholders and all on a platform that is relevant, experiential and sensorial, MAW’s vision is to perpetual and grow this celebration of Chennai as a home for art and culture.
