Actor Amitabh Bachchan attended SMM Ausaja’s book launch named ‘Bollywood’ on Saturday in Mumbai. While addressing the event, Bachchan stated that in Indian film industry, there really isn’t any kind of document of their work.
Addressing the event Bachchan said, “Ausaja has been a journalist by profession but someone that has been passionately interested in filmography. I have had always great admiration for him because there are very few amongst us unfortunately that have never taken up the idea or thought of documenting the Indian film industry, researching it, keeping old memorabilia so I really want to appreciate Ausaja’s work for having taken the trouble of pursuing passion in a way but also creating something for posterity to generations to come”
“I have always found that, we do lot of work. We have been 100 year old film industry but there really isn’t any kind of documentation of our work. Many a times I have spoken to many of my colleagues and to other people that are connected with film industry. How it would have been if I could have known say for example, what K. Asif was thinking when he was making ‘Mughal-E-Azam’ or how did Dilip saab (Dilip Kumar) approached his role in ‘Devdas’ or what was Vimal Roy ji idea of wanting to make a particular story in a particular manner or why Guru Dutt used a particular camera angle or lighting when he was shooting for ‘Waqt ne kiya kya haseen sitam’ from his iconic fim ‘Kaagaz Ke Phool’ and this moment are lost and forgotten now and people will never know that but how wonderful that we have people like Ausaja that collects these memorabilia and keep it for the posterity for generations to come”
“This is an immensely important document which is why I always wanted to support him in any book that is going to be done in this direction. If in future, if anyone can find who are connected with documenting our history or talking about it then I would be first person to come forward and extend my help and co-operation.”
“I feel very proud that Ausaja has entrusted me with writing the forward and this is exactly what I have expressed in the book that time is going away, there weren’t so many mediums of communication and therefore, making a record of something like this way wasn’t possible but now we do have them so, I urge people to give more attention, value, respect to it because the Indian film industry us truly a very respectful place”
