Actress Juhi Chawla graced the Cuffe Parade Residents Association (CPRA) organized walk, ‘Plastic Free Cuffe Parade’ here on Sunday. During her media interaction, Juhi praised the decision of banning the plastic bags in Maharashtra.
“I am happy that it started and it should grow. When I heard about Maharashtra Government and BMC, has taken the decision that by next Gudi Padwa, all plastic bags will be banned, it made me very happy”
“See I am not against anything without any good reasons. Most people will wonder, how it can be done, as this is so convenient, but this is important. Thousands and millions of animal and birds die every day because of plastic, out water is getting polluted, so tomorrow, what are our children’s going to eat or drink?” said Juhi Chawla.
The state government plans to make Maharashtra plastic-free beginning from May 2018. The government is planning a ban on plastic bottles from early 2018 in government offices, educational institutions and functions organized by the state before the ban is extended to private offices.
Juhi Chawla also added that she has good reasons to go against plastic, as it causes more harm and usefulness.
“In 2014, Supreme Court did an observation that if plastic bags are not banned or manufacturers didn’t take the plastic bag and did something with it, the harmful effects would be so severe, it will be worse than an atom bomb. This is a huge issue, don’t just think this is garbage; this is poisonous garbage, which has piled up so much in the environment that not just Maharashtra but the entire world is planning to do something about it. Recently Kenya banned the plastic bags throughout the country” added Juhi.
Actress Juhi also added that cow is a holy animal and we Indians pray to her but now we are killing them.
“We are Indians, we worship cows here, and our children drink their milk, we use cow’s urine for medicinal purposes, we get manure from their dung but today, we are killing the same cow. In our country cow roam freely on roads and we dump all the garbage including food wrapped in plastic bags on the roads. Unfortunately, cow ends up eating all that and their stomach starts to shrink, causing a slow and painful death. We are doing it”
Juhi Chawla also spoke about “Citizens of Tomorrow” and “Swach Bharat” initiative. She said, “Join ‘Citizens for Tomorrow’ and together we will tackle this issue and make our country clean. And if Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji has said, Swach Bharat, then we will do it”
Juhi Chawla also added that adults cause pollution and garbage, but when it comes to cleaning we leave it to kids.
“I am very happy that I interacted with the kids today but we are the ones, who cause pollution and garbage, but when it comes to cleaning it up, we have left it to kids of the world. I hope they understand the importance of what are they are doing so that they can continue doing it. Today, I came here to make children understand why this is important” added Juhi.
