The world famous Pattappa Catering Services opens its first restaurant in Mylapore and its called Pattappa’s Thalligai. Located opposite the main entrance of Nageswara Rao Park, the restaurant is already a big hit with the residents of Mylapore and Triplicane. Pattappa is the name of the owner and ‘Thaligai’ happens to be an Iyengar term for cooking, hence Pattappa’s thalligai. Pure-vegetarians seem to be the target, as the restaurant serves authentic traditional vegetarian dishes that are made without onions and garlics. The restaurant did not even advertise about their launch in Chennai. News that the restaurant opened spread very fast in the city through social media and the response happens to have been immense from the residents of Mylapore. As a promotional activity, the restaurant invited few of its loyal customers and offered free breakfast on the day of the launch.
The founder of the restaurant, Pattappa started cooking at the age of 10. Totally, he has about 54 years of experience as a cook and he belongs to the fifth generation of cooks in his family. Currently, his son Balaji Pattappa has taken over the business and they have been the best wedding caterers for a long time now in Chennai. The price for two people costs about 400 INR and the restaurant can accommodate about 48 people. The restaurant will soon have a party hall too in the first floor of the building.
Ksheerannam(milk/rice sweet) is their signature dish and dishes like ven pongal, curd rice are really popular there.
The breakfast, lunch and dinner thali are priced at 150 INR. It’s open for breakfast (7 to 10 a.m.), lunch (12 to 3 p.m.) and dinner (7 to 10 p.m.).The other items in the menu are juices, beverages, chaat and they also have a special take away menu .
