Actor Rajinikanth has started the shoot for his 164th venture Kaala – Karikaalan, from yesterday. The movie is directed by Pa Ranjith.
After the success of Kabali, there are lots of expectation as to how this new movie would be. This is the second time, Ranjith is pairing up with Rajinikanth.
Kaala is produced by Dhanush. A grand set resembling Dharavi slums of Mumbai have been erected at a studio near Chennai for the shoot. Santhosh Narayanan is scoring music for the film.
On the title Kaala-Karikalan, Ranjith explained that Karikaalan is worshiped as a demigod by a group of people from Thirunelveli, who now reside in Mumbai. Since the movie is based on Tamilians living in Mumbai, he opted for the name. Ranjith also hinted that there is surreal politics hidden behind the name as well.
He added, ‘The movie has a lot of significance in Tamil culture and carries great valour. Karikaalan was a Chola king from the Sangam era and is attributed to have accomplished mighty feats, including constructing the Kallanai dam over Cauvery river.’
