With the release date of Baahubali 2 coming close, a few activists have threatened to disrupt the release of the movie across Karnataka following a remake made by actor Sathyaraj on Cauvery row.
Following these threats actor Sathyaraj today chose to express his regret for his alleged remarks against Kannadigas, made some nine years ago on the vexatious Cauvery water row.
In a video message released to the media through WhatsApp, Sathyaraj said, ‘I take this opportunity to extend my regret on the remarks made by me during the Cauvery protests.’
‘I reiterate that I am not against those living in the neighboring State. But to ensure smooth release of Baahubali 2 that stars me in a brief role, I tender an apology. I hope those in Karnataka will accept the same and allow the release of Baahubali 2,’ he said.
Baahubali 2, directed by S S Rajamouli, is a historical drama that features Prabhas and Rana Dagubatti. Sathyaraj plays an army general, Kattappa. Interestingly, when the first part was out on 2015, there were no protests. And Kattappa killing Baahubali in the movie became the talk of the country too.
In his video message, Sathyaraj added that people of Tamilnadu will understand his position. ‘I don’t want a movie made on such a grand scale by the hard work of thousands of technicians to go waste,’ he explained.
He added, ‘In future, none can stop me from voicing for the cause of Tamils be it any issue that affects their livelihood. And if producers feel that because of me they may suffer losses, they need not sign me in their films.’
‘I want to die as an ardent Tamilian who cares for his people than an actor,’ he said, and added, ‘I take this opportunity to thank all those associations who stood by me and helped me handle this issue.’
