The big Three-O is here, time to put your health under the lens

The dreaded birthday is around the corner, you are turning 30, but unlike the movie heroines and stars we cannot just pretend everything is perfect in our life. You will see small changes take place, especially when it comes to your body. Which is why it is important to take some time out and take care of your health, atleast get some basic checks done.
Now unless you are one of the lucky few who have it smooth sailing, you will find your bones ache and joints shudder. The first thing to revisit is your fitness routine. Time to put on those shoes and go for a run or a walk atleast.
Studies have shown that working out  will help lower a woman’s risk of breast cancer by atleast 37%,  heart disease by 14% and osteoporosis by 45%. That said, there are a few things every woman who has reached the big 30 should pay attention to.
  • Maintaining a healthy weight
  • Reducing stress
  • Look at the reproductive issues – change in lifestyle, pregnancy and menstrual cycles.
  • Keeping one’s skin looking young and free from any acne or aging
What is most important is to get regular medical checkups and health screenings done. It is also time to get Mammograms and maybe even a pap smear done. Infact, it is recommended that these two be done every year, just to rule out any serious ailments.  A change in lifestyle and working habits will also help keep the mind body and soul feeling refreshed.
Many women tend to gain a few kilos as they cross the 30 threshold since their metabolism slows down a bit.  In order to maintain good weight, having a routine exercise routine, watch what you eat and avoid smoking or drinking in excess will help.  Start maintaining a diet chart and include a lot of fresh vegetables, fruits and fibre rich items into your diet.
Another aspect that one will go through would be bone loss. It is also called bone thinning or osteoporosis. The muscles in our body tend to start losing their tone and strength, which is why you should increase calcium intake, continue to work-out and get check- ups done to check bone strength.
Check with your parents about any ailments they suffer from and if any of them are genetic, it is best you stay ahead of the game and guard yourself.
Don’t worry, the 30s are a wonderful phase to be in, especially if you are aware of your body and be kind to it.
