The big update of the WhatsApp feature ‘Status’ has turned out to be a flop it seems. The enriched feature ‘Status’ is fairly similar to Snapchat’s stories but most of the discontented users have expressed their disappointment and criticized WhatsApp for copying Instagram and Snapchat’s features. In addition to that, the users also seem to be missing the previous text-based status updates.
As the negative feedback received from all the corners by Facebook, the parent company of WhatsApp, it seems that the messenger company is now working on bringing again the old status feature as an addition. It means the option will be given to the users that they can choose either the old text-based status updates or the newer audio/video-based status updates.
WaBetaInfo (@wabetainfo), a Twitter account that tracks changes in WhatsApp’s beta builds says that the ‘Info’ section in the app’s beta version will feature an extended menu. Tapping on it will lead the users to the old status menu, which is now renamed as ‘Info’.
Earlier, the status was called Tagline but now, it has been renamed as ‘Info’. It’s been further mentioned that the new changes will appear under the ‘Profile’ section.
Apart from the old status coming back, WaBetaInfo also revealed that WhatsApp has renamed the ‘revoke’ feature as ‘unsend’. The option, which allows users to recall sent messages and the feature is available under the three-dot menu located on the top right corner of the app.
Once users click on the ‘Unsend’ option, the app will ask for a confirmation. When confirmed, the sent status will change to ‘This message was unsent’.
The new features are expected to be rolled out to all WhatsApp users in few weeks of time.
