Tribes Coffee Brews Its First Flagship Café in Bangalore

Where ancient wisdom meets your daily caffeine fix—straight from India’s tribal heartlands.

A new chapter in India’s café culture began today with the launch of Tribes Coffee in HSR Layout, Bengaluru — a concept café that brings together wild-grown beans, tribal wisdom, and curated global cuisine. At the heart of the brand is a powerful idea: to honour and celebrate India’s indigenous communities, their relationship with nature, and their legacy of cultivating some of the country’s most distinct coffee varieties.
As India’s first & only terroir – based coffee brand , the café offers a thoughtfully curated selection of coffees — all ethically sourced from tribal regions across India, each cup carrying a unique terroir, story, and soul. With flavour notes shaped by ancient forests, mineral-rich soil, and generational farming practices, Tribes Coffee is a sensory journey into the unexplored.

To mark the opening of the flagship outlet, three remarkable women — Seedarapu Gangamma, Buridi Asha Latha, Buridi Munisha and Addakatla Gennu — travelled from the tribal village of Nimmagedda in Andhra Pradesh to be the chief guests at the celebration. These women, recognised by the Honourable Prime Minister in 2022 for their contributions to sustainable tribal farming, are the face of the coffee being served — and the spirit behind the movement Tribes Coffee seeks to build.
“With Tribes Coffee, we’re not just serving coffee — we’re offering a taste of untold stories,” said Kiran Nerlige Gowda, Founder of Tribes Coffee. “This café is a tribute to the true guardians of the bean — the tribal women and communities who have, for generations, nurtured the land and passed down the sacred art of growing coffee. They’ve remained hidden in the deep, untouched forests of India — unseen, unheard, yet quietly sustaining a legacy of flavour and resilience. It’s time they’re recognized.”
At the heart of Tribes Coffee is a bold and necessary promise: to uplift tribal communities by placing them at the center of the value chain. By procuring directly from tribal growers, the brand ensures authenticity, fair pricing, and traceable quality.
In addition to direct procurement, 10% of Tribes Coffee’s annual profits will be reinvested into the very communities that grow the beans — funding initiatives in education, healthcare, livelihood, and cultural preservation.
“Urban health through tribal wealth is our mantra,” Kiran Nerlige Gowda added.
“The more we procure from them, the stronger their future becomes. Our mission is to complete the sustainable circle — where your daily coffee fuels their dignity, their joy, and a better tomorrow. Happy and proud tribals — that’s our ultimate brew.”
Speaking with quiet pride, Seedarapu Gangamma shared, “The flavour of our coffee speaks the language of our forests. With this space, you’re not just drinking coffee — you’re tasting our home. It’s a proud moment to see our beans travel so far, and to have someone like Kiran take this journey with us.”
Spanning 1,400 sq. ft., the store is designed as an immersive space — echoing the textures, materials, and artistry of tribal life. Earthy aesthetics, movement, warmth, and meaning with clay tones, curved walls reminiscent of tribal mud homes, and hand-painted murals that trace the journey from bean to brew create a warm, immersive space. Tables flow into each other in an open layout, echoing the sense of community that tribal culture embodies.
A fluid layout guides guests through the space, revealing tribal art, earthy textures, and cultural cues at every turn. Archways and varying heights create a natural flow, while boulder-inspired furniture brings the ruggedness of the forest indoors. Minimalist tribal sculptures serve both form and function, grounding the space in heritage. With concrete finishes, white clay murals, and a palette of stone, wood, and clay — all bathed in warm, ambient lighting — the café offers more than coffee. It offers a quiet, sensory tribute to the land and its people.
The menu currently offers signature coffees from regions such as Nimmagedda, Koraput, Daringbadi, Paduwa, Similiguda, Paderu and Araku Valley, with standout brews, bold, sun-dried roast, a rare forest-grown bean that’s as delicate as it is complex. Each is paired with a menu of global eats — designed to complement the coffee without overpowering it.
