Palam Silks Unveils Thoughtlooom: Chennai’s New Hybrid Cultural Space Where Art, Fashion & Community Meet
Inaugurated by Padma Bhushan Nalli Kuppuswami Chettiar | Opening Featured, Thiruppavai by Sargam Choir and a Talk Show by Historian V. Sriram on the Genesis of Margazhi Music Season in Chennai.
Palam Silks has announced the launch of Thoughtlooom, a reimagined cultural and experiential space within its Mylapore boutique, in Oliver road- a venue created to dissolve boundaries between sarees, stories, art, music, and young entrepreneurial energy. The inaugural evening reflected this spirit with a Margazhi season with a soulful performance of Thiruppavai, a rendition by Dr. Sudha Raja’s Sargam Choir. Followed by the main talk show by Columnist, Historian and Entrepreneur V. Sriram on the origins and evolution of Chennai’s iconic Margazhi Music Season.
Thoughtlooom marks the next chapter in Palam’s journey, which began years ago in Mylapore when the brand first broke away from traditional retail ambience by removing shelves and counters to create an open, touch-and-feel experience of the browsing sarees. This shift transformed the store into a space where customers could move freely, engage with the sarees personally, and complete their shopping in minutes — an experience that quickly became a favourite among Chennai’s saree patrons.
As its community grew, the boutique naturally evolved into a concept space hosting chamber concerts and intimate talk shows from 2020 onward and these cultural experiences were called Thoughtloom.
Today, that seed has grown into a full-fledged cultural address for Chennai.
With its newest transformation, Thoughtlooom emerges as a hybrid venue — part boutique, part cultural rendezvous, part platform for next-gen creators. The venue will host: Invite-only events, Book readings & conversations, Chamber concerts, Fireside Chat Shows, Art Showcasesand Exhibitions featuring the works of young entrepreneurs and homepreneurs, a perfect platform for early-stage startups.
This initiative expands Palam’s long-standing vision of creating experiences around silk — and now, experiences beyond it, by building a community that celebrates the many facets of India’s arts and cultural landscape.
Ms. Jeyasree, Founder of Palam Silks, said:
“Palam has always been about enhancing customer experience and building an emotional connection with everyone who walks into our store. Being located in Mylapore, the cultural hub of Chennai, it felt natural for us to become a part of the city’s artistic landscape. Years ago, when we noticed senior music patrons struggling to move between sabhas during Margazhi, we introduced Isai Payanam — a shuttle service connecting major sabhas at a time when app-based cab booking service did not exist.”
She added, “That spirit of service inspired our next step: hosting music concerts and talk shows within the store. It was a personal passion project, I might say. Today, Thoughtlooom is an extension of that idea. We wanted to create a dedicated and well-curated space for cultural events and also offer a platform for upcoming musicians, young talents, startups, women entrepreneurs, and homepreneurs to showcase their work and ideas with confidence. This is our small way of giving back to the city that has supported us for decades.”
