Lakshmipriya Devi, best known for directing the Manipuri-language film Boong, was spotted wearing 11 Tareng at the 79th BAFTA Awards, where her film won the Best Children’s and Family Film award. Inspired by the traditional Phanek and Phee, the brand designed a minimal yet striking ensemble in Lavender Grey from its ‘Phiruk’ collection.
The ensemble featured a draped top with set-in sleeves, paired with a Phanek featuring the iconic temple motif in gold Zari. The fabric is handwoven Khurkhul silk, crafted by a handful of skilled weavers in Khurkhul village, Manipur.
About 11 Tareng: 11 Tareng was founded by Jayshree Koijam and Reena Ahanthem—graduates of the prestigious fashion schools, the National Institute of Fashion Technology and Pearl Academy, New Delhi. After years of studying and working in Delhi, we felt a deep pull toward our roots in Manipur. Our fascination with handwoven Khurkhul silk—its unique texture, fluid drape, and natural sheen—inspired the birth of 11 Tareng. We recognized not only the fabric’s beauty and versatility but also the cultural richness embedded in every thread. Though we are not yet fully sustainable, we are steadily adopting best practices to minimize our environmental footprint. Our journey toward sustainability is ongoing and deeply intentional.
