It’s not every day that one spots a giant water gun on the road. But that’s exactly what happened across parts of Gurgaon this week, where a truck carrying an oversized water blaster drew crowds, cameras and plenty of pre-Holi excitement.
The roaming installation by quick commerce platform Instamart is part of its festive push ahead of the festival of colours. Modelled after the widest range of water guns available on Instamart, the larger-than-life installation turned city roads into a moving spectacle. Commuters slowed down to take a second look, children pointed from sidewalks, and shoppers pulled out their phones to capture the moment. Within hours, videos of the mega water gun began circulating across Instagram and X, racking up millions of views in under 24 hours. One user wrote, “I love how every festival now comes with its own “Did you see this?” moment. Today’s one for me was a video of a truck carrying a giant water gun. It was hilarious seeing the reactions to the truck in the video”. Another user joked, “Gurgaon seriously isn’t for beginners . I was on my way to meet a friend and I spotted an Instamart truck carrying a massive water gun on it. It was like a pichkari that decided to go 10x for Holi. I saw everyone’s heads turn on the street the moment the truck came into view.”
Holi, but make it XXL
The activation mirrors a broader shift in how Indians are shopping for Holi. What was once a last-minute purchase of basic plastic water guns has evolved into a more planned, festive buy with premium water guns, blasters, edible gulaal, among other options, seeing rising demand. In many North Indian cities, festive essentials and water guns are among the fastest-moving categories in the run-up to Holi. Last Holi, Instamart witnessed a significant spike in premium festive products, particularly curated colour hampers and party essentials. The platform also saw a 5x increase in flower sales compared to the previous year, alongside rising demand for premium assortment, including natural colours and décor. This year, Instamart’s festive assortment consists of high-performance water guns and blasters by Spyra water blasters, NERF Super Soakers, Police Gatlin Single-Barrel Water Guns, Toyshine Electric Water Guns, alongside sweets, flowers, a wide range of colours like UV, phool gulal, organic, body paints, and aftercare products, among others.
By taking an exaggerated, larger-than-life version of a premium blaster to the streets, Instamart appears to be tapping into the “go big or go home” spirit that defines Holi celebrations. The spectacle not only sparked conversations online but also reinforced how festive shopping is becoming more experiential and entertainment-led.
With just days to go before the festival, the message is clear: Holi shopping is no longer a last-minute errand. It has officially begun, and this year, the first splash arrived on city roads.
