Vijay and Ajith Movies that battled at Box Office: Timeline

In order to show support for their favourite actors, fans of some of Tamil cinema’s top actors frequently engage in social media wars. This becomes a crucial consideration when choosing the release date for movies. The majority of the time, producers and filmmakers work to avoid having two films starring major actors compete with one another for audience attention and financial support. Nevertheless, there have been instances when it was impossible to avoid some of the most significant box office battles. In light of the upcoming clash between Varisu and Thunivu at the box office, let’s look back at each occasion when Vijay and Ajith had movies come out at the same time.

A timeline of Vijay and Ajith movies battling at the box office:
Coimbatore Maaple – Vaanmathi – 1996

Ajith and Vijay had their first brawl with Vaanmathi & Coimbatore Maaple in the year 1996. Both films received overwhelmingly positive reviews and spent more than 100 days in cinemas. Both films are considered to be the year’s blockbusters.

About Coimbatore Maaple and Vaanmathi :

Meanwhile, Vaanmathi is a romantic drama that follows Krishna’s story of trying his hardest to get the girl (Vaanmathi) despite her family’s disapproval.

Poove Unakkaga – Kalluri Vaasal – 1996

Ajith and Vijay’s movies collided for the second time during the same year in 1996. The Tamil audience loves the movie Poove Unakkaga, which stars Vijay. The movie, which played in theatres for more than 150 days, is still significant to actor Vijay’s career. But actor Ajith played a secondary stage actor in the film Kalluri Vaasal. The movie, which starred Prashant Thiagarajan in the lead role, didn’t receive much attention.

Kadhalukku Mariyadhai – Rettai Jadai Vayasu – 1997

On the exact same day in 1997, Vijay’s Kadhalukku Mariyadhai & Ajith’s Rettai Jadai Vayasu were both released. In contrast, Ajith’s film struggled to do well, while Vijay’s movie became such a huge hit and ran for 150 days. Kadhalukku Mariyadhai is still regarded by Vijay’s supporters as one of the greatest Tamil movies ever made. However, the same cannot be said about Ajith’s film, which clashed with it.

Unnidathil Ennai Koduthen – Nilavea Vaa – 1998

The widely praised 1998 hit movie Unnidathil Ennai Koduthen, which starred Navarasa Nayagan Karthik as the lead character, featured Ajith in the second half. The film Nilave Vaa, starring actor Vijay, was released in less than a week. However, Vijay’s film bombed miserably in this dispute.

Unnai Thedi – Thulladha Manamum Thullum – 1999

Released in 1999 were the movies Unnai Thedi, featuring Ajith and Sundar C, as well as Thulladha Manamum Thullum, starring Vijay and Ezhil. Both movies were massively successful, with Thulladha Manamum Thullum from Vijay running for more than 150 days and Unnai Thedi from Ajith running for more than 100 days.

Khushi – Unnai Kodu Ennai Tharuven – 2000

In 2000, the films Unnai Kodu Ennai Tharuven, starring Ajith, and Kushi, starring Vijay, were both released. This competition was won by actor Vijay’s Kushi, and the film has been among the most successful for the actor in the movie industry.

Friends – Dheena – 2001

The 2001 movie year saw the simultaneous releases of Vijay’s Friends and Ajith’s Dheena. Both films received overwhelmingly positive reviews and spent more than 100 days in cinemas. Both Dheena and Friends were regarded as box office successes for the year. These are significant films for these actors, particularly Ajith, as Deena is the film that established him as an action/mass protagonist.

Bhagavathi – Villain – 2002

The movies Villain, starring Ajith and directed by KS Ravikumar, and Vijay’s Bagavathi, which was helmed by Venkatesh, both hit theatres on November 4 of that same year. Both movies were well-liked by viewers. Although Ajith’s Villain was a huge success and is still praised by his fans, Vijay’s Bagavathi was a colossal failure.

Thirumalai – Anjaneya – 2003

Anjaneya, starring actor Ajith, and Thirumalai, starring actor Vijay, both debuted on October 23, 2003. Vijay’s Thirumalai turned a modest profit, whereas Ajith’s Anjaneya was a complete failure.

Aadhi – Paramasivan – 2006

Paramasivan, a film starring actor Ajith, and Aadhi, a film starring Vijay, were both released on January 14 of 2006. Aadhi was a flop, whereas Ajith’s Paramasivan was a hit with the audience.

Pokiri – Aalwar – 2007

On January 12, 2007, Pongal saw the release of actor Vijay’s Pokkiri, which was helmed by Prabhu Deva. Pokkiri received a lot of positive reviews and was hailed as the year’s biggest hit. Despite being released on the same day, actor Ajith’s film Aalwar received little attention.

Jilla – Veeram – 2014

2014’s Pongal saw the release of actors Vijay’s Jilla and Ajith’s Veeram. Fans adore the village story in Veeram, in which Siruthai Siva and Ajith starred, and Nelson’s Jilla. Both movies were big money makers. However, Veeram with Ajith was a bigger hit as evidenced by the critically acclaimed segments.
