PBKS vs SRH IPL 2026: Punjab Kings Chase Down 220 in Style — Shreyas Iyer Steals the Show

Match 17 | April 11, 2026 | Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur

SRH Set the Tone Early — But Couldn’t Hold It

Punjab Kings defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6 wickets with 7 balls remaining in match 17 in  IPL 2026. It was fast, fearless, and absolutely brutal from both ends.

SRH’s opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head propelled the side to 105/0 inside the powerplay, its first time in this season powerplay score cross 100 also  the highest powerplay total ever recorded at this venue and the third-best in IPL history.

The crowd barely had time to settle in.

Abhishek Sharma’s Record-Breaking Blitz

Nobody in the stadium was ready for what Abhishek Sharma had planned. He went after the bowling attack right from ball one.

Abhishek smashed ball in all side of arena record  74 off just 28 balls , featuring 8 towering sixes, other side Travis Head  scored 38 runs . At that point, 230-plus seemed inevitable.

Shashank Singh: The Quiet Game-Changer

Then came the turning point nobody saw coming. Shashank Singh emerged as the unlikely hero with the ball, picking up two crucial wickets in the same over to completely stall SRH’s momentum mid-innings. Shashank has taken only 3 wickets in his IPL career, dismissing Abhishek Sharma twice.

From the powerplay onwards, SRH managed just 77 runs for three wickets in the next 10 overs, unable to sustain the tempo their openers had set. IPL T20 All the other SRH batters completely lost their rhythm during the Innings.

Heinrich Klaasen made 39 off 33 balls while Aniket Verma’s brief 18 off nine provided a late spark, but SRH never quite regained full momentum, finishing at 219/6. IPL T20

PBKS Openers Fired Right Back

Punjab Kings didn’t flinch chasing 220. They came out matching Hyderabad’s aggression shot-for-shot from the very first delivery.

Priyansh Arya matched Abhishek’s intensity with a 16-ball fifty its help to score 93-run opening stand, as PBKS responded in equally explosive fashion.

The Mullanpur crowd stayed on its feet throughout the innings, cheering every bounderies.

Both teams combined for 198 runs without losing a wicket in the first six overs, smashing 16 sixes — the highest powerplay aggregate without a wicket falling in IPL history.

Captain Shreyas Iyer Seals It Perfectly

When PBKS needed experience to close the chase, their captain delivered without breaking a sweat.

Iyer stitched together a decisive 69-run partnership off 35 balls with Nehal Wadhera for the fourth wicket, before finishing unbeaten on a superb 69 off 33 balls — an innings blending control with calculated aggression. IPL T20

He was rightly named Player of the Match. Punjab Kings moved to 2nd place in the IPL 2026 standings with 7 points from just 4 games.

Shreyas has led three different franchises to an IPL final. His vast experience was evident in today’s performance.

What This Means Going Forward

This was the 10th time PBKS successfully chased down a 200-plus target — the most by any team in IPL history. That stat alone tells you everything about this team’s character.

For SRH, the defeat further exposes structural flaws in their bowling unit, with Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat struggling with their lengths throughout the death overs.
