South Actor Sarath Babu Dies at 73

At the AIG Hospital in Hyderabad, a 73-year-old veteran actor from the south of India, Sarath Babu, dies suddenly. He has been suffering from chronic sickness for some time. The actor’s death was attributed to multiple organ failure, according to a hospital release. The news that he had passed away has recently gone viral on social media. However, the allegations that he was improving from treatment were denied by his relatives. But his family announced the elderly actor’s passing on Monday (May 22), according to the news report.

He was created in 1952 at Amadalavalasa, Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh. In 1973, the Telugu film “Rama Rajyam,” starring Sathyam Babu Dixithulu, also known as Sarath Babu, was the year of his acting debut. In the following years, he appeared in over two hundred Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam films. The movie star appeared in “Pattina Pravesam,” a 1977 film by K Balachander. He gained notoriety for his role as Kamal Haasan’s companion in the 1978 film “Nizhal Nijamagiradhu,” which was helmed by the late, iconic director K Balachander.

In the 1978 film, “Mullum Malarum,” Rajinikanth and Sarath Babu both starred. In 1979’s Srungara Ramudu & 1978’s Mudi Sooda Mannan, he co-starred with N T Rama Rao and Jaishankar, respectively. He also appeared alongside Chiranjeevi in K Balachander’s 1979 movie ‘Idi Katha Kaadu’. Being a versatile performer, he was equally convincing as a villain as he was in supporting roles for the stars. The soft-voiced performer was well-known for his iconic parts in films like “Mullum Malarum” and “Nenjathai Killathey.”

Among his most well-known movies are K Viswanath’s “Sagara Sangamam,” “Apathbandhavudu,” and “Criminal.” In the Tamil movie “Vasantha Mullai,” featuring Bobby Simhaa, Sarath Babu last appeared. Sarath Babu performed in Malayalam films in addition to Tamil and Telugu ones. Some of them are “Sarapancharam” from 1979, “Dhanya” from 1981, etc. It is widely known that Sarath Babu and Tamil superstar Rajinikanth were close friends.

Many Tollywood stars were shocked to hear of Sarath Babu’s passing. D K Shivakumar, the deputy chief minister for Karnataka, tweeted his sadness upon learning of the passing. “I really liked his acting in the movie ‘Amritavarshini’. May the departed soul rest in peace. I also share in the pain of his family and fans”. On Twitter, Kamal Haasan sent his sincere sympathies. He wrote, “Sarathbabu has passed away. He was a terrific actor and a dear friend. The days of acting with him are lingering in my mind. Introduced by my mentor in Tamil, he excelled in many timeless roles. Cinema has lost a good actor. He has my sincere condolences.”

● Sarath Babu was mentioned talking to Eenadu in one of the old interviews regarding his early years, teenage years, romantic relationships, marriage, and acting profession.
● Sarath Babu is a member of the 13 children of Vijayasankara Deekshithulu and Suseela Devi. They live in the Andhra Pradesh town of Amudalavalasa in the Srikakulam district. He went under Satyanarayana Deekshithulu’s moniker.
● The Gowri Sankar Hotel, which is owned by Sarath Babu’s family, has been a profitable enterprise. After graduating and before moving to Madras, he and his older brother looked after the hotel.
● He performed in the stage play “Dongaatakam” while obtaining a B.Sc. degree as a character. At the time, it was a huge success, and the positive feedback offered Sarath Babu renewed optimism. After receiving praise and encouragement from friends, Sarath Babu travelled to Chennai in search of chances.
● He was married twice, the first time to seasoned actress Rama Prabha. Before formally separating, they shared a home for around ten years. A lot was said at the time about their fascinating separation.
