2. Embracing the Indian Culture:

As the story revolves around Devi Vishwakumar, an Indian American, it takes us intensely into the Indian culture. The main character always find herself in the identity crisis. She lies between her Indian roots or never known to be an Indian at all. In one of the episodes of first season, Kaling shows the importance of Ganesh Puja where Devi Vishwakumar is more embarrassed about her culture. However, Devi thrives and embraces her Indian culture slowly as the show moves on. Not to mention, Devi and her family members are seen wearing Indian costumes in several occasions.

As mentioned, it is based on Kaling’s childhood experience, she certainly knows how to give a humourous touch when it comes to stereotypes about Indian culture.

3. The Relatable Supporting Characters:

It is certain we love the supporting characters more than the main characters in many shows. Never Have I Ever surrounds on Devi and her life which includes her friends and love-interests. Of course, Teenage is vague without them. We can relate ourselves with a lot of characters we watch in the shows. However, we even come across with similar characters in our real life. So, let’s start with Devi’s friends – Eleanor Wong and Fabiola Torres. While Fabiola is interested in Robotics, Eleanor finds herself in being a theatre artist. Although these two characters are funny and interesting, Fabiola has to deal with her sexuality and Eleanor to deal with her absent mother while living with her step-mother and father.

The next great additions to the show are Ben Gross and Paxton Hall-Yoshida. They both are Devi’s love-interests. She even two-times them as she likes Ben’s brain and Paxton’s look. However, we do get to know more about these characters when the episodes highlight more on their personal life and struggles when the story is narrated on their point of view.

4. Fun and Twists:

Fun and Twists

No matter what, things are not the same for the Indian teenagers as that for the American teenagers. So, Devi, amidst her American friends, have to tackle her mother to indulge in certain teenage fun. However, her friends, Fabiola and Eleanor have got her back throughout the show. On other hand, the show includes unexpected twists which we never see coming. We may even guess that the show will be ending in certain way. But it will never be as we guess.

5. The Main Character – Devi Vishwakumar:

We are not saying much but Devi Vishwakumar makes us to binge-watch this whole show in a go. Being the show’s main character, Devi Vishwakumar, who lost her father, is a bold and daring teenager. Played by Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, who is a Sri Lankan Tamilan, herself, the character suits and relates in several ways. Devi even understands and mends her relationship with every other supporting character. However, the show focuses on how she deals with her issues with the help of a therapist and thrives into a beautiful young lady. The show is worth-a-watch as one of the main reasons is Devi Vishwakumar, the main character itself.

The show is highly relatable and funny in many ways that everyone cannot resist enjoying it.
