Patrician College’s LIFEATHON 2026 Unites 1200+ Participants Against Drug Abuse

Patrician College of Arts and Science, Adyar, Chennai, proudly organized its Silver Jubilee Marathon – LIFEATHON 2026, themed “Youth Against Drug Abuse”, on Sunday 11th January, drawing an overwhelming participation of over 1,200 runners from schools, colleges, and the general public.

 

The marathon witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, youth, fitness enthusiasts, and citizens, all united for the noble cause of creating awareness against drug abuse and promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Participants took part in 1 km, 3 km, and 5 km run categories, transforming the event into a vibrant display of social responsibility and community unity.

 

The marathon was formally flagged off by Thiru. M.A. Subramanian, Hon’ble Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu, who lauded the initiative taken by Patrician College in mobilizing youth and the public towards a socially relevant cause. The Guest of Honor Mrs. D. Subashini,  Councilor, Ward 173, GCC joined in the flagging off along with the College Officials  Bro. Ramesh Amalanathan, Director & Secretary, Dr. Fatima Vasanth, Academic Director, Dr. Arockiamary Geetha Rufus, Principal, Dr. B Anandapriya (Vice Principal, Shift I) and Dr. Meena, Vice Principal, Shift II & Lifeathon26, Marathon Convenor. In the address, the Chief Guest emphasized the critical role educational institutions play in combating drug abuse and shaping responsible citizens.

 

The entire Adyar and Kotturpuram area thronged with the youth in the chilly hours of the morning uniting to fight against the evil that destroys the social fabric. As the Minister himself joined in the run, the cheering marathoners followed behind. Students stood in silent harmony displaying slogans on the dangers of drug abuse.

 

The valedictory ceremony and prize distribution was graced by Mr. Deepak Kaushik, Superintendent, Narcotics Control Bureau, Chennai Zonal Unit, Chennai who highlighted the importance of awareness, vigilance, and collective action in preventing substance abuse among young people. Also Guest of Honour Mr. K.R. Kathirmurugan , 170 Ward Councilor, GCC, distributed the prizes to the winners.

 

Organized as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Patrician College of Arts and Science, and in association with the Tamil Nadu Athletic Association, LIFEATHON 2026 stood as a powerful movement reinforcing the message “Run for Life, Free from Drugs.”

 

The management, staff, and students of Patrician College expressed their gratitude to the Police Department, the press bureau, Chennai Corporation Officials, participants, dignitaries, volunteers, and supporters for making LIFEATHON 2026 a grand success and a meaningful step towards a drug-free society.
