Rotary District 3234 observed World Polio Day 2025 with an impactful awareness drive across Chennai’s metro network, reinforcing its steadfast commitment to a polio-free world. The central event was held at Alandur Metro Station, led by District Governor AKS Rtn. Vinod Saraogi and the District Polio Team, in collaboration with Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).
The event was graced by Thiru S.Ashok Kumar, IRSE, Chief General Manager,Track and Elevated Construction, CMRL, as the Guest of Honour, Immediate Past District Governor Rtn. NS.Saravanan alongside Rtn. G. Palani, District Chairman – Polio, who led the campaign initiatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Rtn. Vinod Saraogi highlighted Rotary’s enduring mission to eradicate polio worldwide, saying, “Rotary’s End Polio initiative continues to inspire collective action. Today’s awareness campaign symbolizes our community’s resolve to protect every child from this preventable disease.”
The campaign engaged metro commuters through interactive awareness sessions, posters, and volunteer drives at major stations including Alandur, Guindy, and Central Metro. The initiative aimed to educate the public about ongoing vaccination efforts and the importance of maintaining vigilance until the world achieves complete eradication of polio.
Rtn. G. Palani expressed gratitude to CMRL and all participating Rotarians for their dedication, noting that “each effort, no matter how small, brings us closer to a world free from polio.”
Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign remains one of the organization’s flagship global programs, with over 2.5 billion children vaccinated since its inception. Rotary District 3234’s citywide observance underscores the power of partnerships and community awareness in achieving lasting change.
