Where Gymkhana Club Meets Anti-Colonial Cool: Episode One’s Bold New Look and Menu

In Powai, where every corner seems to offer a new place to eat or drink, there’s one spot that has managed to stay ahead of the curve, Episode One. A neighbourhood favourite for its easy-going luxury and vibrant atmosphere, it’s now upping the game with a bold new menu that makes every visit worth repeating. The place remains the indisputable ‘go-to hangout space’ across all generations.

The star of the show is the new menu curated by Chef Sahil Singh of Nazcaa Dubai fame and now leading the charge as the Chief of Culinary Operations at Speciality Restaurants Ltd. The new menu playfully reimagines comfort food while celebrating local and global flavours.

Highlights include Chicken Haleem Tarts, where Hyderabadi flavours meet delicate phyllo cups with a chilli kick; The Chicken Sukha Quesadilla wraps slow-cooked chicken, ground coconut, and roasted spices in warm methi thepla, lifted by a swipe of sweet-spicy chundo. The Hand Pulled Lamb Vindaloo brings tender Goan-style lamb laced with toddy vinegar, tucked into soft mini poi. The Fish Polichattu comes banana leaf-wrapped and grilled, its smoky flesh balanced with a sharp wasabi cream. The Chicken Tikka Masala Bao layers saucy chicken tikka, tandoori mayo, and crisp shaved potato inside pillowy mini baos. To close, the Sea Salt Caramel Tart hits the sweet-salty spot with chocolate, caramel, and sea salt, while the Dulcey Chocolate Pull Me Up soaks soft cake layers in warm dulcey chocolate sauce for a rich, melty finish. At the bar, the program is as imaginative as the kitchen. Non-drinkers can opt for placebo versions crafted with premium non-alcoholic spirits.

“With this new menu, we wanted to celebrate familiar flavours while giving them unexpected twists that surprise and delight. Each dish tells its own story, a playful nod to tradition with a contemporary edge. At Episode One Powai, the goal is simple: to make every visit feel effortless, memorable, and fun,” said Chef Sahil Singh, Chief of Culinary Operations , Speciality Restaurants Ltd.

But Episode One isn’t just about the food, but also about the space you enjoy it in. Conceptualised as a “no-brainer bar” by founders Anjan and Avik Chatterjee of Speciality Restaurants, Episode One acts as the perfect after-hours refuge, where you can swap boardrooms for barstools, loosen your ties, and let the stories flow over cocktails and comfort food. The interiors reflect a rebellious twist on the traditional gymkhana club, infused with modern anti-colonial art and a sense of playful sophistication. The cosy booths, a buzzing main bar, and a private veranda, the space adapts to every kind of gathering, from birthdays and date nights to corporate evenings, and casual catch-ups.

With its daring interiors, playful new menu, and cocktails that spark conversations, Episode One Powai reaffirms itself as the neighbourhood’s most-loved hangout. It isn’t about reinvention, but about keeping comfort close, turning up the creativity, and making sure every visit feels like the start of a new story.
