Yellow Roar Returns: How CSK Broke the Curse at Chepauk
Chennai Finally Wins — And Delhi's Fielding Gifted Them the Night
After three horrible defeats, CSK returned to Chepauk and showed a performance that had been missing all season. The Men in Yellow needed a spark. Sanju Samson lit the entire stadium on fire.
Samson Takes Charge From Ball One
Samson set the tone immediately, driving debutant Auqib Nabi through the covers and never letting up. He dominated the powerplay, racing to 45 off just 19 balls as CSK posted 61/0 in the first six overs , Overall Silent powerplay for CSK . IPL T20
Ruturaj Gaikwad struggled and fell cheaply. But it barely mattered.
CSK hit their first six in the 11th over of the innings.
Samson and Ayush Mhatre milked 113 runs for the second wicket, powering CSK to a competitive 212 for two. Samson finished with an unbeaten 115 off 56 balls, hitting 15 fours and four sixes.
Mhatre’s 59 off 36 balls was a reminder this kid belongs at the top level. Mhatre was retired out to give big-hitter Shivam Dube a chance at the end.
CSK fans were expecting Dewald Brevis to come in instead of Shivam Dube.
Delhi’s Fielding: A Masterclass in What Not to Do
Delhi came to bowl. They stayed to drop catches.
Delhi’s fielding effort was sloppy — they missed a run-out chance against Mhatre and dropped both Samson and Mhatre once each in the deep. IPL T20 Two lives. Two massive partnerships. Two hundred and twelve runs.
After the match, DC captain Axar Patel admitted: “Our fielding let us down. Chasing 213-215 was pretty much possible — but if we hadn’t dropped one or two catches in the field, the result could have been different.”
He’s right. Those spilled catches cost Delhi not just runs, but the match entirely.
CSK’s Bowling: No Mercy in the Reply
Delhi came out swinging. KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka raced past fifty inside four overs, taking 61 in the first five. Then one wicket changed everything. Rahul was cramped by Khaleel Ahmed, Nissanka followed soon after, and from 66 for no loss, DC slipped to 76 for 4 , CSK’s tight fielding forced DC into mistakes and cost them wickets!
That collapse decided the game. CSK
Jamie Overton was the standout performer with the ball. The English pacer picked up four wickets while conceding only 18 runs in his four overs — registering the best bowling figures of the IPL 2026 season.
Tristan Stubbs fought hard with a valiant 60 off 38 balls but lacked support at the other end.
A massive row broke out in the 19th over after umpires denied Tristan Stubbs a glove change. He lost his wicket on the very next ball, allowing CSK to seal the contest
A Win That Means More Than Just Two Points
CSK broke a six-match losing streak at home and registered their first win of the season.
The Chepauk crowd, patient through a painful start to 2026, finally had something to celebrate.
Samson, speaking after being named Player of the Match, said it felt like coming home.
Delhi will regroup. But dropped catches and cluster wickets are habits that need fixing — fast.
