World Environmental Health Day – 26th September

Every year on September 26th, the International Federation of Environmental Health (IFEH) Council observes World Environmental Day to raise public awareness of various environmental health-related concerns. The first IFEH meeting and Environmental Health Youth Summit were held in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia, in 2011, which marked the beginning of the celebration of World Environment Health Day.

An international organisation called the International Federation of Environmental Health (IFEH) works to raise awareness of the importance of ecosystem quality and to give national organisations fighting for the same reason a common international platform. The International Foundation for Environmental Health (IFEH) has been constantly working for more than 32 years to address health problems that continually endanger human welfare and to advance the exploration of environmental health.

Environmental health refers to medical conditions that occur outside of the body along with external conditions that can endanger human health by provoking sickness and disease. The quality of the environment, including the air, water, food, and other resources that are required for humans to survive in day-to-day life, is degrading due to a number of environmental problems, including pollution, the greenhouse effect, global warming, rapid urbanisation, etc.

World Environmental Health Day this year will focus on “Strengthening Environmental Health Systems for the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.”

It should go without saying that protecting our planet’s future is a hot topic right now. None of the world’s nations, businesses, or households are immune to the effects of our dynamic environment. The importance of World Environmental Health Day in bringing attention to the urgent problems threatening our environmental health as well as the condition of our planet cannot be overstated. So we’re gonna take a look at some of the ways you can participate and celebrate this World Environmental Healthy Day for a better future.

Ways you can celebrate World Environmental Healthy Day:
The ways to participate in World Environmental Health Day are countless. Here are a few examples:

● Participate in a funded challenge, like a sponsored walk or run, to raise money for environmental charities.
● Take an interest in a sustainability challenge for one day, a week, a month, or just how long you’d like, and make a conscious effort to only utilise sustainable products and support sustainable companies.
● Attend lectures, workshops, and talks to learn more about environmental sustainability, and become knowledgeable about sustainable practices.
● Encourage others, especially young children, to recognise the significance of environmental sustainability and health.
● Create a space in your backyard or garden that is environmentally friendly to plant crops, flowers, or vegetables. You can also install birdhouses as well as rabbit dens to benefit the local wildlife.
● Explore neighbourhood cleanup activities and contribute to maintaining a tidy neighbourhood.

Public education is required on illness prevention measures as well as strategies for reducing environmental health concerns. Many governmental and private organisations are working hard to increase food safety, sanitation, access to clean water, and the cleansing of both indoor and outdoor air pollution levels so that their citizens can live healthier lives. The main reasons for celebrating International Environment Health Day are to recognise the contributions of these organisations and to give their work a focal point. So, on this World Environmental Health Day, you can try to join forces with any organisation that prioritises the need to save the environment for future generations.

If you are unable to attend in person, you can participate in online events. Many online events will be held in honour of World Environmental Health Day, and there will also be lectures that you can listen to ensure you are being an environmental friend.
