Just as the annual Golden Globe Awards celebration came to a close, something wonderful occurred for us Indians.
RRR wins Best Original Song Award:
Having been nominated in two categories and taking home a Golden Globe Award for one of them, RRR arrived and conquered. One of the two categories in which the SS Rajamouli blockbuster was nominated—Best Original Song—was awarded to Naatu Naatu. However, It did not win the 1985 award for Best Foreign Language Film, but which went to Argentina. Other films in the category up for nominations include Decision to Leave, Close, and All Quiet on the Western Front (all from Germany and South Korea).
Notably, Rihanna’s Lift me up from Black Panther 2 and Lady Gaga’s Hold my Hand from Top Gun Maverick were also nominated alongside Naatu Naatu, including Taylor Swift’s Carolina from Where the Crawdads Sing.
Including director SS Rajamouli, the cast of RRR, Jr. NTR, and Ram Charan (along with his wife Upasana Kamineni), attended the Golden Globe Awards to represent the film. This historical drama with the background of 1920s British-occupied India portrays both Jr. NTR and Ram Charan as resistance fighters, Komaram Bheem and Alluri Seetharamaraju. Along with Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt, the cast features Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody, and Olivia Morris from the United Kingdom as well.
