The acclaimed Odia film brings one of Odisha’s most powerful ritual traditions to screens across the country
AAO NXT, Eastern India’s independent OTT platform, has announced that Kangula: Maa Kali Ra Danda Nacha is now streaming exclusively on the platform. The film is available across Android, iOS, Windows, Android TV and Fire TV Stick, taking one of Odisha’s most rooted cultural stories to audiences far beyond the state.
Kangula draws from the centuries old tradition of Danda Nacha, the intense ritual dance performed in devotion to Maa Kali, and translates it into a cinematic experience that has struck a deep chord with viewers. The film has earned an IMDb rating of 9.1, a rare distinction for a regional title and a testament to how strongly its story has resonated.
The release marks another step in AAO NXT’s mission to give Odia stories the platform and production quality they deserve. Since its launch in 2020, the platform has grown to over 1 million downloads and more than 200,000 monthly active users, building a slate of over 15 AAO Originals and 200 plus hours of content for the Odia, Bengali and Assamese speaking market of Eastern India.
Speaking on the release, Kaushik Das, Founder and CEO, AAO NXT, said, “Kangula is exactly the kind of story AAO NXT was built for. Danda Nacha is not just a performance, it is faith, discipline and identity passed down through generations. Stories like this rarely make it to mainstream platforms, and when they do, they are often diluted. We wanted audiences everywhere to experience it in its truest form, and the response has been overwhelming. A 9.1 rating on IMDb tells us that when regional stories are told with honesty and craft, they travel.”
Kangula: Maa Kali Ra Danda Nacha is now streaming on AAO NXT. Subscriptions start at ₹299 for a quarterly plan and ₹399 for an annual plan, making AAO NXT one of the most accessible OTT platforms in India.
