Mirchi jock offers free auto rides to couples this Valentine’s Day

FM channel celebrates grey areas in relationships, organises speed dating parties.

Chennai, February 14: Vasanth and Bharathi who were waiting for an auto in Besant Nagar, were taken by surprise when a decorated auto driven by Mirchi RJ Shivashankari stopped next to them and offered them a free ride. Little did they know that it was Mirchi Kaadhal Auto Rani, a Valentine’s Day initiative by Mirchi, that offered free rides to couples.

Vasanth, one of the commuters said, “I first thought it was a prank, and we were unsure if should board.”

Mirchi, known for its signature quirkiness, took Valentine’s Day celebrations to the next level with a first-of-a-kind, unconventional idea, celebrating complicated relationships.

A week-long radio special, “Irukku Aana Illa” (It exists, but it doesn’t) celebrated complicated relationships, its grey areas, and new age relationship lingos. From love bombing, breadcrumbing and benching to riz, Mirchi delved deep into these trending dating terms, sparking engaging discussions with listeners.

Mirchi also hosted Ithu Namma Aalu, a speed dating event in the city, providing a platform for about 50 youth to meet and socialise with strangers.

Priya and Yuvraj, another couple who participated, said, “There should be more events like Ithu Namma Aalu in the city. Such events help keep the city young and provides platform to meet people.”

Mirchi will release Greenlight Kaadhal, a music video on February 14 on Mirchi Tamil YouTube page.
