THE CELEBRATION OF MOTHER’S DAY AROUND THE WORLD: Mother’s Day is the celebration of motherhood and recognizing the sacrifice that has been made by every woman in the world. When it comes to celebration, it varies from place to place as per their traditions. For example, Thailand celebrates Mother’s Day in August on the birthday of the queen, Sirikit. But Ethiopia’s celebration is completely different from Thailand’s by gathering the family members and each tries to sing songs and have a large feast as part of Antrosht which is a multi-day celebration honoring motherhood.

In the USA, this special day is celebrated by presenting mothers and other women with gifts and flowers and it has thus turned out to be one of the biggest holidays for consumer spending. They even give rest to their mothers from household activities. Well, India has also been celebrating the day by honoring the mothers and presenting gifts and giving them a day off from chores even. This is because children could do anything for their mother as they could get a loving appreciation from their mothers. However, Mother’s Day has also been a special date for launching political or feminist causes as well. For instance, back in 1968, Coretta Scott King, the wife of Martin Luther King Jr, used this special day to host a march in support of underprivileged women and children.
