“This International Day of Happiness is more than just a fun celebration, it also reminds us all that the world is a better place when we connect with and care about the people around us.” Dr. Mark Williamson.

HISTORY OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF HAPPINESS: Happiness comes unexpectedly in your life. Both happiness and sadness make up your life. However, one could not feel happy at every point of his life and if he experiences it, then it does not mean life itself as well as there would be no meaning for happiness. In order to realize the importance of happiness, the International Day of Happiness has been observed every year on 20th March.

The day was actually founded by the philanthropist and UN’s special advisor Jayme Illien. United Nations established 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which in turn helps to wipe out poverty, reduce inequality and shields our planet, which thus leads to the path of happiness and well-being.

The history of International Day of Happiness dates back from 2012 when the General Assembly of the United Nations came up with the idea and pronounced the day as International Day of Happiness in July 2012.

The goal is to recognize the relevance of happiness and well-being in the lives of human beings in the entire world as well as the importance of recognition in public policy objectives. However, Bhutan was the first country to propose the International Day of Happiness and it chose the value of national happiness over national income back in the 1970s. That is how the day of Happiness evolved. It does not mean that you are going to be happy with this particular but you have to realize the value of happiness globally and its impacts on society.
