Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music, Asia’s premier music college was established in 2010. Situated in the lush green flat-lands of the Indian east coast in Tamil Nadu, the college is the ultimate destination for anyone who wants to forge a serious career in music.
What makes SAM a unique place for music education is the fact that it combines the Indian Gurukula system with western music pedagogy, inviting world class artists from all over the globe as teaching faculty. This means that students live on campus along with their teachers, to make music education more comprehensive and accessible.
Since its inception, SAM has been nurturing some of the best talent this country has to offer, because of its adherence to world-class music standards. Notable names that have walked through the halls of SAM are Victor Wooten, Jordan Rudess, Benny Greb, L. Shankar, Loy Mendonsa, Chris Adler, Ghatam Kartick, Shujaat Khan, BC Manjunathan and Mohini Dey among many others.
Not just the teachers, but some of the alumni of SAM – names like Takar Nabam, Manukrishnan, Sahib Singh, Vishnu Reddy, Vatsal Bakhda and Bawari Basanthi – have gone on to establish themselves as prominent members of the Indian music scene.
