Sivakarthikeyan’s next film has officially started shooting, but the story around SK27 has already become bigger than a routine production announcement.

The film, tentatively titled SK27, has gone on floors with Parking director Ramkumar Balakrishnan taking charge. Backed by Sathya Jyothi Films, the project marks the first collaboration between Sivakarthikeyan and Ramkumar.

The production house announced the beginning of the film on September 25, sharing a poster featuring a car and several goons along with the line, “The more they came, the bigger he looked.” The film also stars Kayadu Lohar.

But there was another reason the announcement caught attention.

Before Ramkumar Balakrishnan came on board, SK27 had been announced as a Sivakarthikeyan and Venkat Prabhu collaboration.

That earlier project never took off. The change in director has now reopened conversations about what happened.

Most importantly, he indicated that his relationship with Sivakarthikeyan remains intact.

That distinction matters. The earlier project may have stopped, but Venkat Prabhu has not described it as a personal fallout with Sivakarthikeyan.

Sivakarthikeyan responds: “We are family”

Replying to Venkat Prabhu, the actor wrote that they are family and questioned why the director was taking the speculation so seriously.

He thanked Venkat Prabhu for his wishes and returned the gesture by wishing him well for his next project.

It’s tempting to read too much into the first-look material.

At this stage, the confirmed information is limited: Sivakarthikeyan leads the film, Ramkumar Balakrishnan directs it, Sathya Jyothi Films produces it, and Kayadu Lohar is part of the cast. The project has started production.

Details such as the complete cast, storyline, release date and character descriptions have not been fully revealed.

So while the poster has created curiosity, the film’s actual genre and narrative should be judged only after the makers release more information.

Sivakarthikeyan has another major project underway

SK27 isn’t the only Sivakarthikeyan project currently in production.

The actor is also working on Seyon, directed by Sivakumar Murugesan and produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International.

The film completed its second production schedule in September. The cast includes Bhagyashri Borse, Raj B Shetty and Seeman, alongside Bala Saravanan, Singampuli and Aruldoss.

The technical team includes composer Santhosh Narayanan, cinematographer Vidhu Ayyanna, editor San Lokesh and action choreographers Anbariv.

The makers have kept the story largely under wraps, although promotional glimpses have offered clues about Sivakarthikeyan’s character and the film’s setting.

That gives Sivakarthikeyan two different projects generating attention at the same time: Seyon, which is already deep into production, and SK27, which has just begun.

What happens next for SK27?

The immediate priority is production.

Reports indicate that the film began with a traditional pooja in Chennai, while the first schedule is expected to run for around 10 to 15 days.

The makers are likely to reveal more about the cast, characters and story as shooting progresses.

For now, the biggest confirmed update is straightforward: SK27 is moving ahead with Ramkumar Balakrishnan as director.

And while the Venkat Prabhu chapter has closed for this particular project, both filmmaker and actor have left the door open for another collaboration in the future.

For Tamil cinema audiences, that’s probably the part worth remembering.
