The biggest fashion night is coming up in a few days, so now is the time to reflect on some old memories. As you may know, the 2023 Met Gala will take place on May 1 with a theme honouring Karl Lagerfeld. We, like everyone else, are excited to see what all of the guests will wear for the event’s red carpet. While celebrities have always strayed from the theme every year, last year was probably the worst of them all. It didn’t look at all like the Met Gala because so many celebrities were dressed contrary to the theme. Anyway, let’s take a look at some of the most interesting things that have happened at the Met Gala over the years, shall we?

Princess Diana’s attendance in 1996
The Princess of Wales unexpectedly appeared on the Met steps in 1996, shortly after divorcing Prince Charles. At the Met Costume Institute Gala honouring Christian Dior, she attended with her friend Liz Tilberis. Diana gave a rare public appearance that evening while sporting a midnight blue dress from designer John Galliano’s debut collection for the company. She accessorised the dress with blue “double cluster” sapphire earrings framed in diamonds and a choker in the same colour. It was an unforgettable evening.

Kimye makes their Met Gala debut with North West in 2013
The Kardashians are almost always seen at the year’s biggest fashion event. Kim, on the other hand, made her Met Gala debut in 2013. She entered with a small surprise along with her former husband, Kanye West. With her pregnant belly, she not only made her debut that day, but also made the debut of baby North. However, it should be noted that Kim’s Givenchy gown for her first Met Gala was not universally praised. Both by the critics and fans. And we don’t know how to defend her.
Rihanna’s Guo Pei Look in 2015
Rihanna carried a Met Gala gown that would later become one of the most spoken-about outfits ever. This happened back in 2015, about eight years ago. The singer wowed in an elaborate yellow gown by designer Guo Pei for the display “China: Through The Looking Glass.” It was fur-trimmed and embellished. Because the event is exclusive, the Met and Anna Wintour created a “no selfie” policy in 2015. All attendees were given a notice informing them using phones for social media or photography inside the gala is prohibited. But as it turns out, breaking it has become a ritual for celebrities ever since. In 2017, a large group of celebrities, including Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian, defied the rule to take an amazing picture. The Met might want to think about changing the rule.
Priyanka’s Sexy Detective Look in 2017
For a while now, Priyanka Chopra, the queen of Bollywood, has made several spectacular entrances into public spaces. Undoubtedly one of the most dramatic entrances in history, her sweeping train coat cascaded behind her as she went up the Met Gala staircase. Ralph Lauren came up with the eye-catching look, which combined sexy detective with red carpet glamour. It was an unusual combination, but it worked.
Blake Lively’s transition in 2022
Writing about the Met Gala and excluding to mention Blake Lively seems impossible. Blake Lively devoted to the “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” theme as the 2022 Met Gala chair by wearing a colour-changing dress. In a dress made entirely of copper, she made her entrance on the red carpet. However, with assistance, she unfolded the dress to expose a turquoise train. The Versace dress referred to Blake’s character in Gossip Girl as well as the Statue of Liberty and its oxidation. For many months after, this look continued to go viral online.
