Ethirneechal Fame, Actor-Director G. Marimuthu Has Passed Away Due To Cardiac Arrest

G. Marimuthu, one of the Tamil cinema industry’s most beloved and versatile actors, has died. The 57-year-old actor-director, noted for his remarkable abilities both in front of and behind the camera, died unexpectedly of a major heart attack at 8:30 a.m. on a fateful morning. His sudden departure has left a gap that will be difficult to fill. Marimuthu is survived by his wife and two children.

G. Marimuthu was born and reared in Pasumalaitheri, Theni, and his rise to fame was nothing short of extraordinary. He ran away from home at an early age, determined to make his mark in the Tamil cinema business. His first job in the profession was as an assistant to the famed lyricist Vairamuthu. Marimuthu’s passion and persistence drew the attention of actor-director Raj Kiran, who hired him as an assistant director.

Marimuthu’s desire for knowledge and eagerness to study led him to collaborate with great filmmakers like Mani Ratnam, Vasanth, Seeman, and S. J. Surya. These opportunities provided a fantastic learning environment for him, fostering his gifts and honing his skills. His big break came when he was hired as a co-director on Silambarasan’s ‘Manmadhan,’ an important turning point that launched his career in the industry.

Marimuthu achieved his aim of becoming a filmmaker in 1990 with the film ‘Kannum Kannum,’ starring Prasanna and Udhayathara. While the film did not set the box office on fire, it did herald the beginning of his directing career. His contribution to the industry included films like ‘Pulivaal,’ which was released in 2014 and demonstrated his dedication to storytelling and filmmaking.

G. Marimuthu’s abilities were not limited to directing. He transitioned smoothly into acting, enthralling audiences with his performances. One of his most remarkable performances was in Mysskin’s ‘Yuddham Sei.’ His engaging characterization and adaptability were shown in films like ‘Pariyerum Perumal,’ ‘Vikram,’ and ‘Jailer.’ His role as the obstinate male chauvinist Aadhimuthu Gunasekaran (AGS) in the popular ‘Ethirneechal’ series on Sun TV, however, pushed him to popularity throughout the Tamil-speaking world. His ability to immerse himself in a variety of roles distinguished him as a remarkable talent in the industry.

Marimuthu’s unexpected death has devastated the Tamil cinema industry. With projects such as ‘Indian 2’ on the horizon, fans and colleagues alike were excited to see more of his excellent work. His absence will be felt profoundly.
