Hollywood diva Halle Berry just took to her social media profile and praised Nomadland filmmaker Chloe Zhao, first ever Asian director to win an Oscar.
Chloe Zhao, the Beijing-born filmmaker whose indie movies chronicle life in the US heartland, bagged best director in the Oscars’. The diminutive 39-year-old wowed Academy voters with her third film “Nomadland,” a semi-fictional drama about the hidden community of older, van-dwelling Americans who call the open road their home.
Halle Berry penned an empowering note for the filmmaker. She shared, “Where do I even start with the incomparable Chloé Zhao? As the first Asian woman (and second woman, period) to win an Academy Award for Best Director, she has broken barriers and amplified the voices of those who have been silenced throughout history. Zhao left China as a teen to attend a British boarding school before finishing her education in Los Angeles and New York. But she soon fell in love with her adopted US homeland’s wide and wild rural spaces “Nomadland” is just her latest love letter to the spectacular landscapes of sparsely populated “fly-over” states like South Dakota and Nebraska.
Halle Berry, on the work front, was last seen in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum with Keanu Reeves. Next she will be seen in Bruised and Moonfall.
