The star couple first joined hands together in this 1999 movie called ‘Poovellam Kettuppar’. The story is about two music directors (Vijayakumar and Nassar), who worked together but got separated due to minor issues. Meanwhile, their son (Suriya) and daughter (Jyotika) fall in love without realizing it. Later, how they convince their parents and succeed in love forms the crux of this film. Thus the couple had a great start with this clean entertainer. Also, Yuvan’s music was an added plus to the story as well as their chemistry.

Uyirile Kalanthathu
Later, in 2000, they again came together for a movie called ‘Uyirile Kalanthathu’. This film revolves around a strained relationship between two siblings (Suriya and Raghuvaran). Raghuvaran always has a bit of insecurity with the pampered younger sibling (Suriya). In a spiteful event, he pushes Suriya off a cliff. In the climax, Suriya appears alive in a court scene where Raghuvaran was eventually punished for his actions. The film also has Raadhika and Sivakumar. Meanwhile, Jyotika plays the love interest of Suriya in this romantic drama. This unconventional story received mixed reviews but managed as a decent entertainer.
Kaakha Kaakha
After three years, the couple was again seen together in the 2003 blockbuster – Kaakha Kaakha. By then, the rumor about them dating was a hot topic of discussion. This cop-action thriller by GVM stars Jyotika, Suriya, Daniel Balaji, and Jeevan. The film focuses on a police squad that kills the brother of a notable criminal Pandya (Jeevan). What follows is the revenge of Pandya (Jeevan) and how he destroys the family and loved ones of the police squad. The film won several accolades which also include a chartbuster music album.
Perazhagan
Meanwhile, the rumors about the couple’s engagement were like wildfire. Soon the star couple again acted together in the 2004 hit movie – Perazhagan. This rom-com revolves around Chinna (Suriya) who has a hunchback and covers it up with a sense of humor. In the hunt for a suitable bride, Chinna encounters Priya (Jyotika) who is in a relationship with Karthik (Suriya again). Chinna helps in the union of Karthick and Priya but unfortunately, Priya dies. Later Chinna meets a blind orphaned girl named Shenbagam (Jyotika again) and falls in love. The girl soon gains vision with the help of the deceased Priya’s eyes. What later happens between Chinna, Karthick, and Shenbagam makes the climax.
Maayavi
Shortly, Suriya and Jyotika had another movie on their list. It was the 2005 action dramedy called Maayavi. Here, Jyotika acted as a fictitious version of herself. The movie also had many guest appearances by various celebrities. This interesting story revolves around Balaiya (Suriya) and Sathyaraj (Sathyan) who are petty thieves. The problem arises when they try to break into actress Jyotika’s house. Their reckless act lands them in a huge mess. Thus to take revenge, they kidnap the actress and what follows is a predictable end.
Sillunu Oru Kaadhal
Next comes the 2006 breezy romantic hit movie – Sillunu Oru Kaadhal. Furthermore, The movie was released on September 8, 2006, which was just three days before Suriya and Jyotika’s wedding. Apart from Jyotika and Suriya, the film stars Bhumika, Vadivelu, and Santhanam. The movie also has some fresh music by A.R. Rahman. The movie focuses on Kundhavi (Jyotika) and Gowtham’s (Suriya) marriage life. It shows how this arranged marriage couple gradually falls in love and makes a happy family. The show starts when Kundhavi accidentally discovers Gowtham’s diary. That’s when she finds out about his previous love life with Aishwarya (Bhumika).
June R
Let’s not forget this 2006 movie by the star couple. The film focus on June (Jyotika) who comes across a mid-aged woman (Saritha). Saritha has been severely injured in an accident and Jyotika admits her to a hospital. There she also informs the doctor that she is her mother and takes care of her. What later follows is an emotional turmoil between Saritha’s actual family and Jyotika. Suriya played a cameo role in this movie. He appears as a rich client in Jyotika’s advertising agency who also falls in love with her. He also consoles and motivates her to handle the situation.
