Two Oscars for India: World cheers as RRR chartbuster ‘Naatu Naatu’ makes history at 95th Academy Awards

It’s ‘Naatu Naatu’ day for India as RRR won the Oscar for the Best Original Song In a Motion Picture at the 95th Academy Awards, fending off fierce global competition – from no less than Rihanna’s ‘Lift Me Up’ from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Lady Gaga’s ‘Hold My Hand’ from Top Gun: Maverick.

The honour for ‘Naatu Naatu’ – the first for an original song in an Indian film – follows its other global recognitions at the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Award.

Composed by MM Keeravaani and penned by Chandrabose, the song has got people the world over shaking a leg and humming along.

There was more good news for India. ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ bagged the Oscar for the Best Documentary Short Film. The short currently streaming on Netflix is directed by Kartiki Gonsalves and has been produced by Guneet Monga.

‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ owned the Oscars 2023 winning Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Actress in a Supporting Role and Best Picture.
