Padma Awardees 2021: From Actress Kangana Ranaut to Transgender Folk Dancer Manjamma Jogati

President Ram Nath Kovind presented Padma awards 2021 on Monday in New Delhi. The list contains 119 recipients of which 29 of them are women awardees, 16 Posthumous awardees and a transgender awardee. The Padma awards for this year is categorized as such – Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. It is presented for the achievements of people in different disciplines or fields including art, social work, public affairs, science and affairs, and goes on. Particularly, Padma Vibhushan is for exceptional and distinguished service, Padma Bhushan is for distinguished service of a high order, and Padma Shri is for distinguished service in any field. The bold and gorgeous, Kangana Ranaut received the fourth-high civilian award of the nation, Padma Shri from President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan for Art. Post-receiving the award, the actress took her Instagram to handle to thank the government and express her gratitude towards her Guru and parents.


Wondering who is Tulsi Gowda? Well, She is the face of unknown to known. Belongs to Karnataka state, Tulsi Gowda is an environmental activist who has planted 30,000 saplings and above. She also supervises the nurseries of the Forest Department and preserves the environment for about six decades. Appeared in traditional attire and barefoot, Tulsi Gowda happily received the most prestigious award, Padma Shri from the nation’s President for social work.


Like Tulsi Gowda, HarekalaHajabba belongs to Karnataka. The Mangalorean fruit vendor is rewarded with Padma Shri by the President for Social Work. Otherwise known as “Saint of Letters”, he saved money to build a school in his village. Harekala wore his trademark attire, white shirt and dhoti and barefoot while receiving the award for his initiation.


Belongs to the Mahadeo Koli community in Maharashtra, Rahibai Soma Popere won the fourth-high civilian award of the nation for Agriculture. Known as “Seed Mother”, she is a tribal farmer helping other farmers to come back to native crop varieties. Rahibai Soma Popere draped in traditional saree, walked barefoot to receive the prestigious award from the country’s President.


President Ram Nath Kovind presented Padma Shri to an eminent artist in leather puppetry of Andhra Pradesh for Art. DalavayiChalapathi Rao is again the eldest awardee is seen walking barefoot with traditional dhoti and shirt to accept the award. He has also been rewarded with many awards for his awe-inspiring shadow puppet craft.


The silver medalist received the Padma Bhushan award from President on Monday. P.V. Sindhu, as known, is the first Indian to become a badminton world champion and is a role model to many shuttlers out there.


Famously known as “Durga of Indian Football”, OinamBembem Devi is awarded the prestigious award, Padma Shri at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. The former captain of the Indian women’s football team is the first Indian woman footballer to receive one of the highest awards in the nation.


The nation’s President honoured the 93 years old working journalist with the Padma Shri award during the ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The country’s oldest working journalist is awarded for Literature and Education (JOURNALISM). Interestingly, Mizoram’s LalbiakthangaPachuau has been editing a vernacular newspaper named ‘ZoramTlangau’ ever since 1953. The man never gets old though. Perhaps, the eldest citizens have a lot of stuff to learn from. Isn’t it?


The veteran Villupaattu artist is conferred with the most prestigious award, Padma Shri. Belongs to Tamil Nadu, the 92-years old Villupaattu exponent put forth, “IdhuBharathaThaayum, Tamil Thaayum, KalaiThaayumthandhaaaseervaadham.” Surprisingly, Subbu Arumugam has devoted his 75 years of life to Villupaatu which is a creative art.


ManjammaJogati, a transgender folk dancer, is honoured with Padma Shri for arts on Monday. In a video, she is seen walking towards the President to receive the award and does a unique gesture facing him and receiving the award, which caught the eyes of the people.
