Deepika Padukone celebrates 3 years of ’Padmaavat’

Actress Deepika Padukone celebrated three years of historical drama film ‘Padmaatvat’ on social media on Monday. In her social media post, she thanked maker of the film Sanjay Leela Bhansali for giving her opportunity to work in the film.

Sharing a small video on her Instagram handle, Deepika wrote, “3 Years of Padmaavat… Some memories & experiences are difficult to articulate but live in your heart forever. Padmaavat was one such experience. Thank you Sanjay Leela Bhansali for entrusting me with this movie & character of a lifetime… #3yearsofpadmaavat @bhansaliproductions @ranveersingh @shahidkapoor @aditiraohydari @jimsarbhforreal @viacom18studios”. The small video consists of prominent scenes, songs and making of the film.

‘Padmaavat’ which released in 2018 is based on the epic poem of the same name by Malik Muhammad Jayasi, it stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, a Rajput queen known for her beauty, wife of Maharawal Ratan Singh, played by Shahid Kapoor. Sultan Alauddin Khilji, played by Ranveer Singh, hears of her beauty and attacks her kingdom to claim her. Aditi Rao Hydari, Jim Sarbh, Raza Murad, and Anupriya Goenka featured in supporting roles.

Despite not being released in some states of India, it grossed over ₹585 crore (US$82 million) at the box office, becoming a commercial success and the 10th highest-grossing Indian film of all time. At 64th Filmfare Awards, ‘Padmaavat’ received a leading 18 nominations, and won four awards, including Best Actor (Critics) for Ranveer Singh. It also won three National Film Awards, including Best Music Direction for Bhansali.

The film became controversial during production. Several Rajput caste organisations including Shri Rajput Karni Sena and its members had protested and later vandalised the film sets claiming that the film portrays the Padmavati, a Rajput queen, in bad light. They had also assaulted Bhansali on a film set.

Bhansali and Deepika Padukone had received threats of violence. The film makers received support from the film community and industry associations including the Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association, Cine & TV Artists Association, Western India Cinematographers’ Association, Association of Cine & Television Art Directors & Costume Designers.

Deepika Padukone was last seen onscreen in Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Chhapaak’ along with Vikrant Massey.

She will next be seen in Shakun Batra’s untitled film alongside Ananya Panday and Siddhant Chaturvedi, Kabir Khan’s sports drama film ‘83’ along with her actor husband Ranveer Singh and many others. Deepika recently signed Siddharth Anand’s patriotic- action film ‘Fighter’ opposite Hrithik Roshan.
