Actress Vidya Malavade, who will next be seen in the second season of a web series titled ‘Who’s Your Daddy’, feels that an actor should not be put in a bracket. She added saying that she will break the barriers every single time whenever she will get an opportunity to show her skills as an actor.
Vidya Malavade was interacting with News Helpline to promote ‘Who’s Your Daddy 2’ on Friday in Mumbai.

Vidya has featured in films like ‘Chak De! India’, ‘No Problem’ ‘Kidnap’, ‘Striker’ ‘1920: Evil Returns’ and ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara!’. She has also appeared in web series like ‘Mismatched’, ‘Inside Season 2’, ‘Kaali 2’ and ‘Flesh’ in her career.

When asked Vidya whether it’s her conscious effort to do different kind of roles in every project, she said, “If I was making something for myself, I would make sure that I break the barriers every time but what you can do is that whatever offers you get, you can just play and do something different with it. I got work in ‘Inside Edge 2’ because I was a hockey player in ‘Chak De! India’, so that space was still very similar but in ‘Kaali 2’, I played a role of tough cop which I never did before in my career and somehow I managed to do that, so that was great. I am just happy that there are people who are looking at me like that. I also think that people look at me with that perspective because of my Instagram profile and the things which I do on social media. I think it’s not fair to put an actor into a bracket. I will keep jumping out of it every single time if I get the good opportunity to show my skills as an actor.”

Featuring  Bhavin Bhanushali, Mamik Singh, Vidya Malavade, Sameeksha Sud and YouTuber Anushka Sharma, the story of ‘Who’s Your Daddy Season 2’ revolves around a small-town orphaned boy Shoosha played by Bhavin Bhanushali, who has entered into a new city, a new college, new relationships, and new problems. His quest to find out who’s his daddy gets him trapped in a funnily tragic situation that could ever happen in any lover’s life.

Talking about the show and her character in the show, Vidya said, “It’s a fun show which has many very roller coaster ride kind of moments . We shot ten episodes of the show in 17 days and I feel that’s a huge feat for us as a team. I am playing the role of a Punjabi woman in the show who runs a beauty spa. I have never played a Punjabi character in my career. I have never really put lipstick on lips and done excessive makeup even in real life, I prefer being slightly subdued.”

Vidya added, “She (character) is a loud and feisty Punjaban and it’s also a challenge when you take up a part like this because I am not from that region and I don’t know how to speak Punjabi. When I walked on the sets for the first day, I told everybody to speak with me in Hindi and try and see how Punjabi can be incorporated in it and I think it kind of worked out. I am so glad that we were shooting in the North of India because I was looking and observing the local people to prepare for my character.”

Talking about how she came on board for the second season of ‘Who’s Your Daddy, Vidya said, “I think I am everybody’s last minute choice after ‘Mismatched’ which came to me two days before I started shooting for it similarly, it happened with this show as well.  Two days before the shooting of ‘Who’s Your Daddy 2’, I got a call from ALT Balaji’s team. In fact, they approached me three weeks before but at that time it didn’t work out and two days before it’s shooting, I again got a call from them and suddenly, everything fell into place and I started shooting for it in Amritsar two days after that. I guess this worked really well with ‘Mismatched’ and now I am hoping the luck continues and it works with ‘Who’s Your Daddy 2’ too.”

‘Who’s Your Daddy 2’ will stream on Zee5 and ALT Balaji from December 22.
