Irrfan Khan’s last film ‘The Song of Scorpions’ to release in 2021

Veteran actor Irrfan Khan’s last film ‘The Song of Scorpions’ is scheduled to release next year. The film is written and directed by Anup Singh, who also directed Irrfan in the post-Partition drama film ‘Qissa’. The film revolves around an independent young tribal woman (Iranian actor Golshifteh Farahani), who tries to overcome a brutal betrayal so as to find her voice.

Panorama Studios who is one of the producers of the film shared its motion poster on their official Instagram handle and wrote, “Witness the mesmerizing performance of Irrfan Khan on the big screen one last time in the upcoming feature, ‘The Song of Scorpions.’ @irrfan @golfarahani @anupsyng @saskia_vischer @gyan_film #MichelMerkt @kumarmangatpathak @abhishekpathakk @chhatwanimurli @rajatgos @darshan_shah1 @gyansharma0706 @zeeshana_ahmad @panoramaspotlight @70mmtalkies @feather_light_films”.

Makers of the film didn’t announce exact release date of the film but they made it clear that it will release in the beginning of 2021. ‘The Song of Scorpions’ also stars Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani and veteran actress Waheeda Rehman in key roles. The film had its premiere at the 70th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland in 2017. However, it has not had a theatrical release yet. Irrfan Khan played the role of a camel trader in the film.

Irrfan Khan acquired a star status over the years by featuring in international projects like The ‘Namesake’, ‘Life of Pi’, ‘Inferno’, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and ‘The Warrior among others’. He died at the age of 53 in Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on April 29. He had been battling cancer and his health worsened after a colon infection. Irrfan Khan is survived by his wife and two sons, Babil and Ayan.

Over a span of 30 years, Irrfan Khan starred in several critically acclaimed as well as commercially successful films which includes ‘Maqbool’, ‘Haasil’, ‘Paan Singh Tomar’, ‘Haider’, ‘Piku’, ‘The Lunchbox’, ‘Talvar’ and the Academy Award-nominated ‘Salaam Bombay!’.

Irrfan Khan was last seen onscreen in Homi Adjania’s comedy-drama film ‘Angrezi Medium’ along with Radhika Madan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Deepak Dobriyal and Dimple Kapadia.
