“I complete 11 years in the film industry, but I still feel like an outsider, more so in Bollywood,’’ reveals the bold and fiery Shruti Haasan in the January issue of Grazia
A writer, singer, musician, actor and the daughter of two veteran actors, Shruti Haasan brings a brooding intensity to the latest cover of Grazia, for the month of January. While many of us discovered new passions and hobbies during lockdown, the star spent most of last year all by herself, in isolation in Hyderabad, doing what she loves the most, creating music. So much so that she recorded, shot and released a single, titled Edge. Speaking about her experiences in the months gone by, she says, ‘’Professionally, I would say that I am entering a new phase because I’ve had enough time to create whether it’s writing, exploring new avenues of expressing myself, or releasing my single. It has all been quite exciting as I’ve been able to test the limits of my artistry.’’
Having made waves in the Tamil, Telugu and Hindi-film industry, Shruti’s last film in Bollywood was Behen Hogi Teri back in 2017. Despite being the daughter of two successful superstars, Kamal Haasan and Sarika, the actor celebrates being a ‘misfit’. “I complete 11 years in the film industry, but I still feel like an outsider, more so in Bollywood. But I continue to revel in the difference that I bring to the table. Being a misfit is a celebration, not deceit.’’
The actor is looking forward to the year 2021 with more music, movies, and energy. The first release of 2021 for Haasan is the Telegu film, Krack, which also stars Ravi Teja and is directed by Gopichand Malineni followed by a Tamil film titled Laabam. Sharing her experience of shooting in the new normal, Shruti says, “I’m not going to lie, I was quite apprehensive about shooting with a collective, but hey, that’s how the film-making process works. Social distancing is the hardest part on set because the nature of film-making is so collaborative. Making movies in 2020 is not for the faint of heart, but it is possible if everyone on set adapts to it responsibly and carefully”
