Dayananda Sagar University (DSU) conducted  seminar-cum-workshop on Understanding National Security Challenges for Defence Journalism Practice

Understanding the technicalities and subject matter of Defence Journalism WRT issues and events pertaining to national security with a deeper, wider and critical understanding

A national seminar-cum-workshop titled Understanding National Security Challenges for Defence Journalism Practice was conducted over a period of two days i.e. on 29 & 30 January 2020 by Dayananda Sagar University (DSU). Dr Bidanda Chengappa, Senior Journalist and Commentator on Defence and Strategic Studies and eminent speakers from Army, Navy and Air Force presided over as Chief Guests at the inauguration ceremony.

The seminar-cum-workshop stressed upon increasing the awareness among young budding journalists in understanding the technicalities and subject matter of Defence Journalism about the issues and events pertaining to national security with a deeper, wider and critical understanding.

Speaking on this occasion, Senior Defence Journalist Bidanda Chengappa said, “Defence Journalism should aim to integrate information concerning the security of the nation in a language that makes the subject matter easily comprehensible by common readers as it is very important for people of the nation to have knowledge about the national security challenges to increase their understanding about it”.

Adding to the above thoughts, Col Manjit Singh said, “Various challenges lie ahead of the journalists in Defence beat including understanding military language, getting a deep sense of history and seeing through big data”.

Group Captain Harsh Vardhan Thakur, Air Force; Commodore BR Prakash, Navy; Col. Manjit Singh, Army; Dr Bidanda Chengappa, Senior Journalist, Defence and Strategic Affairs; Aksheev Thakur, Journalist, Defence and Strategy were the eminent speakers at the two-day seminar-cum-workshop.
