India valves was founded in 2016 to create a National dedicated forum for Transcatheter valve therapy development that focuses on patient awareness, education, physician training and safe therapy delivery in this niche field of International Cardiology. Valve disease of the elderly in the past required open heart surgery. However open heart surgery in the elderly leads to prolonged hospital stay, increase induration before getting back to normal quality of life and risks ICU based infections and stroke. In the recent years, valve replacement can now be done without open heart surgery allowing patients to be discharged home in 2 – 3 day’s time where by  quality of life improves soon after discharge and their risk from open heart surgery and prolonged  ICU stay is neglected. These procedures referred as Transcatheter aortic valve implantation or Transcatheter aortic valve replacement abbreviated as TAVI/TAVR. This TAVR treatment has been expanding slowly in India since 2010 when only a handful of devices where done in the country per year. Currently around 800 TAVR procedures are currently done in India per year. This number is exponentially growing every year as the world wide evidence suggests that elderly patients may benefit better with TAVR procedure compared to surgical open heart surgery. Because of the expanding worldwide evidence,in the united states of America and the Europe, currently more patients undergo TAVR procedure compared to surgical aortic valve replacement.

In India this treatment is slowly expanding with multiple devices. It is worth noting that in India the first clinical TAVR procedure was performed at Chennai,Tamilnadu and was published 2010. The maximum used TAVR valve called Evolute-R was first performed successfullyat Chennai, Tamilnadu and the first mitral valve replacement and tricuspid valve replacement in India without open heart surgery was also successfully first performed in Tamilnadu, India.
