Starting with a note to the fans – This is a historical drama which should never be compared to Bahubali. Ponniyin Selvan is completely based on a historical novel written by an iconic Tamil writer, Kalki Krishnamurthy, whereas Bahubali is an imagination. It is Kalki’s Ponniyin Selvan with Mani Ratnam’s magical twists. While Ponniyin Selvan 1 is more of an introduction to most of the novel’s characters with beautiful scenes, the sequel, Ponniyin Selvan 2, is grandeur and complete in every aspect.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 begins with the flashback story of young Aditha Karikalan and Nandhini. This, then, leads to the climax of part 1, where Arunmozhi Varman and Vanthiyadevan are drowned into the sea. When Vanthiyadevan learns about the mastermind behind crashing the Chola Kingdom, he tricks Nandhini to spare his life. The return of Arunmozhi Varman, who is presumed to be dead, dissipates the plans. On other hand, Aditha Karikalan gets ready to face Nandhini, who is staying true to destroy the entire Chola Dynasty.
