Onions at INR 29.9/- per kg – bigbasket brings relief to its customers across India

Bangalore, October 15, 2019: In light of the increasing onion prices throughout India, bigbasket, India’s largest online supermarket, has announced a lucrative offer for its customers. Between 14th and 18th October 2019, bigbasketeers can purchase onions at a never-before price of INR 29.9/-only from the bigbasket app or website. Lately, onion prices have touched an all-time high of INR 70 to 80 per kg.

The surge in onion prices is the highest in the past four years. They have increased by almost INR 25 per kg in the past six months, as per the Consumer Affair Department’s price monitoring cell data. Apart from offering the product at a lower price to its customers, bigbasket also aims to support the crisis-hit farmers, who are the company’s main suppliers for fruits and vegetables.

Speaking about this, Varun Vijayaraghavan, Marketing Manager, bigbasket said, “we have always placed great emphasis on all our stakeholders. We make huge ongoing efforts in bringing value to both our customers as well as farmers, by procuring our fresh produce directly from the source. Through its Farmer Connect program, bigbasket is helping increase the income of farmers by around 10% to 15% while at the same time bringing the freshest produce to its customers. The company has set up several collection centers (CC) across the country and is now sourcing 60% of its fruits and vegetables directly from the farmers, thus eliminating the middlemen in the procurement process. It is worth noting that Fruits and vegetables are a key category and a regular traffic driver for the company.
