April 11th is observed as National Pet Day. Most people have been started adopting pet animals such as dogs, birds, cats, etc and they are showering love on them. There are several pet lovers all over the world exposing their infinite love towards their pets. The history of the National Pet Day dates back to Colleen Paige, an animal welfare advocate and pet and family lifestyle expert founded the National Pet Day in 2006. This was observed back in 2006 just to celebrate the joy that pets could sprinkle on us and the bond it creates with their human-friend. She thus encouraged people to adopt pet animals like dogs and cats waiting for the shelters. And the motto turned out to be “Don’t Shop! Adopt!” Back in 1973, the Human Society of the United States reckoned that 13 million cats and dogs own their shelters every year.

Amidst these calculated pets, some were strays, some were surrendered by owners who could not care for them anymore and some were seized under legal actions as well. As per the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 6.5 million animals have entered shelters nationwide approximately. However, Colleen’s initiation of the holiday established in the United States and then expanded internationally.

Now, Pet lovers have started the celebration of the day almost in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Isreal, Spain, Guam, Scotland, and other countries as well. You could have seen many celebrities and stars adopting pets and have been growing more into it. Howbeit, The National Day for the loving animals has been promoted by Taylor Swift, Ellen De Generes, Ricky Gervais, Cee Lo Green, Jimmy Fallon, Willy Nelson, Kevin Bacon, Seth Myers, and Carrie Underwood. As mentioned, Social media has been playing a vital role in spreading the celebration and promoting Colleen’s good cause as well.
