Atlee’s Dynamic Father Characters in His Movies So Far; Celebrates 10 Years of Film Industry Career

The prominent filmmaker of South Indian Cinema Industry, Atlee, has delivered blockbuster movies. Started his cinema career as an assistant director, Atlee’s debut movie, Raja Rani, propelled to be a super hit flick. His next projects were with Thalapathy Vijay and they are namely — Theri, Mersal and Bigil respectively. All three did blockbuster collection in Box Office with extreme craze. However, Atlee’s recent addition to his filmmaking career is SRK-starrer Jawan. Plunging deep into his movies’ characterization, Atlee’s prowess in sketching significant father characters, is mind-blowing. From Mersal to Jawan, Atlee imbibes zestful and formidable father characters into his movies. Let’s check out them!

Atlee’s Dynamic Father Characters:
Vetrimaaran (Mersal):

Thalapathy Vijay-starrer Mersal is a massive movie in Atlee’s directorial. After his maiden movies, Raja Rani and Theri, Mersal (2017) focuses on the corrupted medicinal world. While Vijay plays dual roles as Magician and Doctor, Atlee introduces Father Vijay (Vetrimaaran) in the flashback. The character, Vetrimaaran, is vigorous and influential in the movie. He fights and gets his village a free hospital but all ends in vain when the villain enters. Though the screen space for Vetrimaaran is for a few minutes, it does impact the audiences for lifetime.

Rayappan (Bigil):

Again, it’s Thalapathy Vijay-starrer Bigil through which Atlee never cease to amaze the audience with the father character. Unlike Vetrimaaran, Rayappan exudes a salt-and-pepper look with finely groomed hair. In Bigil, Vijay plays dual role as Michael (son) and Rayappan (Father). The time when Rayappan was introduced on the big screen with an evil BGM, the whole of the theatre was erupted. Meanwhile, the director’s character arc of Rayappan includes a stammering speech issue. Atlee’s father character of Vijay’s Rayappan is one of the most-loved in recent times, holding separate fanbase still. The story of Father Rayappan begins as a gangster who fights for his people’s upgrade, and who loves his son, Michael, and the football sport beyond.

However, he dies when the opponent gang kills him, which is one of the heart-wrenching scenes of the entire movie. Filmmaker Atlee shows a high-octane father character in this 2019 movie which was loved by all. On the other hand, Actor Vijay ate and left no crumbs as Rayappan in Bigil. Speculations are that Atlee may direct a full movie on ‘Rayappan’ which will be a prequel to Bigil.

Vikram Rathore (Jawan):

The recent release of 2023, Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan has already became a mega blockbuster movie. In Atlee’s directorial, King Khan acts in dual role as Azad Rathore (son) and Vikram Rathore (Father). The former is a Cop and the latter is an Ex-Military Officer. SRK as Vikram Rathore is all swag and stylish in the movie. Be it, him, saving his son (Azad) from the villains or riding a bike in the climax, Vikram Rathore exudes a swag and charismatic style. King Khan as Vikram Rathore opts for a salt-and-pepper look with a style statement. Unlike Atlee’s other father characters, he never dies but has a happy-ending.
