Bollywood Slams Authorities for Cutting Aarey Forest for Metro Shed

Bollywood Eco-Warrior celebrities and activists have been opposing the proposed felling of over 2,600 trees in Aarey to make way for the metro car shed and demanding relocation of the depot, which is part of the Metro 3 project.

A video have surfaced which has sparked a storm on social media. Netizens and celebs are slamming the shameful act of cutting Aarey trees in the middle of the night.

Actress Dia Mirza took to her social media and slammed the authorities. She wrote, “Isn’t this illegal!?! This is happening at #Aarey right now. Why? How? @AUThackeray @mybmc @CMOMaharashtra @TOIIndiaNews @MumbaiMirror @fayedsouza @VishalDadlani @ShraddhaKapoor”

Actor Farhan Akhtar wrote, “Cutting trees at night is a pathetic attempt at trying to get away with something even those doing it know is wrong. #Aarey #GreenIsGold #Mumbai”

Filmmaker Onir expressed his sadness over the cutting of trees. He tweeted, “In the cover of darkness the axe falls on our trees. RIP #AareyForest…We failed you. My heart breaks to know that by morning many proud erect trees will have fallen to human greed”

Music composer and singer Vishal Dadlani wrote, “#AareyForest is being murdered right now, in the dead of night. @narendramodi @devendra_fadnavis , please don’t do this. Please make one call and get this stopped, at least until the SC has a chance to review the petitions. Please show us that you care about us. About our health, about our air, about our future”

Filmmaker Bejoy Nambiar also slammed the act. He wrote, “This is what pure Greed looks like. Murdering the one and only green corner of our city one tree at a time! Shame on the people in power who CAN stop this and shame on the people who are quietly watching this happen #AareyForest”

Meanwhile, Bombay High Court on Friday dismissed all petitions against the felling of over 2,500 trees for a Mumbai metro depot.
