Manivasagan Namasivayam of DT Next found the constant explaining, uneven humour and sluggish second half dilute what could have been a sharper film about talent, access and the changing music industry. He also called out an LGBTQ+ sequence as insensitive.
Janani K of India Today saw the right instincts undercut by flat writing, a late-arriving conflict and heavy reliance on speeches. Her verdict was that a film about an art form fighting for its place in the mainstream struggles to find its own voice.
